DEBATING – YEAR 5 Year 5 debating team will compete against Mascot Public School this Wednesday at Pagewood PS.

CREATE EAST Congratulations to Martin and Emily who have been selected to participate in this year's Create East performance. Both students will spend three days preparing for a theatre production in the theme of 'outer space', to be performed on the evening of Friday, August 23rd. Martin will be participating in the band segment, and Emily in the choir ensemble. They will be joining Miss Grisanti, who will be co-coordinating the Film portion of the event. Create East is a wonderful experience for students in upper primary who are gifted and talented in the Creative Arts. We wish both students all the best on their performance! Miss Grisanti

ASSEMBLY - Assembly will be held Wednesday 7 August at 2:30pm. 3C will be presenting. Parents/Carers/grandparents are most welcome to attend our assemblies.

RUGBY LEAGUE SKILLS

League Stars will be running a program from Monday 12 August here at

Pagewood Public School. League Stars is the after school Rugby League skills

program that lets every kid play to their strengths. Each week, your child will

participate in specially designed games that get them smiling. Program will

start at 3:30pm at Pagewood PS. Please wear enclosed shoes and bring a water bottle.

The program will run for 6 weeks for an hour after school from 3.30pm – 4.30pm. The cost

is $75 and you will receive a pack which includes a bag, ball, pump and T-Shirt. Students

will receive a flyer at school with all of the information. The links below will take you

straight to where you can register.

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT

Term 3 Statement of Accounts were sent home in Week 2. We appreciate some parents may wish to pay in instalments or may

have difficulties meeting these costs. Please contact Ms Mayhew in confidence if you would like to discuss this matter.

To pay your child’s ‘Statement of Account’, it is helpful to the school if Parents and Carers use the Parent Online Payment (POP)

system. This is to reduce the amount of cash being handled at school by students and staff. To pay by POP, please go to the

Pagewood Public School website at http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au and select ‘Make a payment’. Parents and

Carers are welcome to pay for two or more children in one payment.

PSSA SPORT – NO PSSA this week due to the ESPSSA Zone Athletics Carnival

UNIFORM SHOP

The Uniform Shop opens every second Thursday from 9.15 to 9.45am. Our lovely parent volunteers will open the uniform shop

on Thursday 8 August at 9.15am and then fortnightly after that.

To keep things exciting here at Pagewood Public School we will be celebrating Book Week with a Book Fair, Dress Up Parade, Big Dreams performance incursion and various library activities.

WEEK 3 BOOK FAIR Monday 5 August-Thursday 8 August The ‘Carnival Book Fair’ sale will be at our school from Monday, 5 August, 2018 until Thursday 8 August, 2019. The students will be looking at the books during class library time and they will be writing their ‘Wish List’ to bring home to you. The students are then able to purchase any books for themselves or to donate to the school. All donated books will have a donation sticker placed inside the cover with your child’s name and year donated written on it. Please be assured that I do tell the children that just because they write a wish list it does not mean they are automatically able to buy books. They need to discuss this with their parents and if they don’t get to buy this time then they may be able to purchase from the Book Fair next year. Purchasing - Children can purchase themselves or with an adult. Monday 5 August - recess, lunch and 3:20-4:00pm Tuesday 6 August - lunch 1:00-1:30pm Wednesday 8 August - 8:30am-9:15am, lunch 1:00-4:00pm Thursday 9 August – 8:30am-9:30am Please note that I am unable to stay after the times listed and cannot sell at other times as I am teaching on class!! If any parents are available to help sell books at any of the opening times please come and see me ASAP, help is greatly appreciated. WEEK 5 BOOK WEEK 19-23 August 2019 During this week, the students will be told which of the ‘Shortlisted’ books were chosen as the winners of the ‘Children’s Book Council Awards’. Throughout Term 2 and Term 3, we have been reading and studying a number of the nominated books with all of the classes as part of their library lessons. The children have their own ideas on which books will be the winners! The students will be participating in Book Week activities in the library throughout the week.

BOOK PARADE Monday 19 August 2019 at 9:20am Book Parade will take place on Monday, 19 August, 2019 at 9:20am. The children will be able to dress up as a character from a book. It helps if they carry the book with them or a copy of the books front cover. They may wear their costume all day. Each class will parade their costumes on the basketball court to music. Family and friends are welcome. No prizes will be awarded as all efforts are appreciated. GRANDPARENT/GRANDFRIEND DAY Monday 19 August 2019 at 10:10am Includes Book Week dress-up parade, classroom activity and morning tea

Grandparent/Grandfriend/children classroom activity In the morning at approximately 10:00am the grandparents/grandfriends are invited into the classrooms for an activity with the children. The children and their grandparent/grandfriend will work on this together. Following this the P&C will be providing a morning tea for the grandparents/grandfriends.

PERFORMANCE SHOW Monday 19 August 2019 at 2:00pm On Monday, 19 August, 2019, a Musical Theatre Performance Group from Melbourne will be performing “Big Dreams” in our school hall at 2:00pm. This show is related to a number of the books that are from the Children’s Book Council Shortlist. The past years’ performances were a huge hit and the children talked about them for weeks. BIG DREAMS is an educational incursion that features a selection of the Children’s Book Council 2019 shortlisted books. Providing a gateway into accessing the best in Australian Children’s literature, BIG DREAMS teaches students not to be discouraged by negative messages in order to follow their heart’s desire. Filled with humour, suspense and featuring student interaction throughout, this educational in-school musical adventure encourages our students to pursue their ambitions. If you’re going to dream, let them be Big Dreams! Mrs Kerves
