Overview
Yet another update to Facebook is changing the
timeline for both users and Business Profile Pages. In
March of this year the company announced its plans
to implement a more streamlined look for Pages by
unveiling a one-column design – as opposed to the
former left-to-right design – and reorganizing areas of
the Page.
This new design went into effect on June 13, 2014
and the following viewpoint will detail what these
changes mean in regard to content, creative and
layout for all business Pages moving forward.
New Layout
In March 2014, Facebook began testing the option of
changing the layout of Pages for visitors coming from
a desktop to make it easier to find information and
to better feature the tools admins use most. The new
layout completely changes the timeline feature and
reorganizes other areas such as the about section
and admin tools. Additionally, the apps and features
on the Pages, such as other social networks and
contests, are now located on the side, rather than
in tabs on the top.

Timeline and About Section
One of the first noticeable changes is the timeline design, which
is now in one column, meaning that all posts will appear in a
newsfeed style format on the Page. Additionally, the about section
has moved and is much more prominent.
The about section now appears on the left column and can feature
general information, a map, hours of operation, contact information,
website URL, photos and videos. Under the about section, you will
now see apps, which stores the information previously found in the
tabs at the top of the Page.
Admin Tools
Another important change involves how the admin
tools are presented. Before this update, the admin
information was found above the cover photo, which
provided an overview about the Page’s performance.
With the new layout, the information will be placed
along the top, with the overview now situated on the
right side of the cover photo, providing a cleaner look
to the Page.
The data will not change, and will instead follow
the admin as he or she scrolls through the Page.
Additionally, a new navigation option is available on
the top left for activity, insights and settings. The

03Build Audience tab offers direct access to the Ad
Manager account to view any running paid efforts.
The new design comes with a new “Pages to Watch”
layout as well in the insight tool.
Creative specs, such as profile pictures and cover
photos, will remain the same on the new layouts, so
there is no need to create new content specifically for
this change. Additionally, all custom tabs are going
to move to the apps section when upgraded and the
specs will remain the same.
The only differences
in terms of specs are
the uploaded photo
thumbnails on the
timeline. Single photo
thumbnails will now be
allocated to a square
space of 504px x 504px.
If you upload a photo
in vertical (portrait)
orientation, it will come
out 504px high, centered
with empty spaces on
the side.

04Multiple photos will
cause the display to vary
by how many photos
are uploaded and by the
orientation of the primary
photo. For example, if
you upload four or more
photos, with the primary
photos in horizontal
(landscape) orientation,
your timeline post will
appear like this:
Other Recommendations
These changes are beneficial for the Page and its
fans as they offer a more simplistic, streamlined
layout, while also providing admins easy access to
live analytics anywhere they go on the Page. Since
the layout has been updated, future content should
follow these changes based on where users are on
the Page.
For example, when referring to a contest in the
apps, direct the users to the left of the Page for
more information. Also, consider the uploaded photo
dimensions when uploading creative or imagery to
the Page. The full-width featured image that an admin
could make span both columns of the timeline is now
gone due to the single-column layout.
