MostrefugeeshaveescapedtheongoingfightingbetweencoalitiontroopsandremnantsofSaddamHussein'sgovernment,butothersareescapingterroristattacks(AlQaedahasinfiltratedIraq)andpolitical,ethnicandreligiouspersecution.

Themajorityofrefugeeshavemovedtoneighbouringcountries(SyriaandJordan),wheretherearesimilaritiesinlanguageandreligionandtheyareeasilyaccessiblebyland.
