Mobile Apps and Class-Period Warm-UpsMobile AppsFor this assignment, your task is to identify, critique, and present a mobile app (for smart phone, iPad, similar device) that could be used in conjunction with teaching and learning secondary school mathematics. The overarching purpose of this assignment is to expose you to the wide array of apps that are out there and, for one of them, to explore its usefulness for teaching and learning mathematics.

Requirements(1) Identify and describe a mobile app you have located and used.

Include name, author/publisher, cost (including indication if there is no cost), and a website link for more information.

Describe the purpose of the app, its intended audience, and with a bit of detail, what it does.

(2) Critique the app. Describe its strengths and weaknesses. Be specific and realistic, and in identifying each

strength and weakness, indicate how, specifically, each strength and weakness relates to some aspect of teaching and learning mathematics.

This critique should be based on your use and exploration of the app. Do not simply summarize reviews you have found.

(3) Present the app Submit an electronic copy of the information described above (identification and critique),

suitable for easy uploading to our course website in order to share our findings. A Word doc attached to an email will be most appropriate. Please discuss with me any other delivery option you’re considering.

Invest up to 5 minutes of class sharing the app itself (use the document camera), highlights of the app’s purpose, and its potential for use in conjunction with teaching and learning mathematics.

Assessment Criteria: 25 points

(1) Identification and Description (5 pts): Include all required components(2) Critique (10 pts): Clear and comprehensive; connections to teaching and learning mathematics(3) Present the app (10 pts): Complete and accessible electronic copy; class presentation

You are required to do one of these two assignments. You may complete this assignment on your own or you my complete this assignment with one other classmate. You’ll need to sign-up for a presentation time slot. Regardless of your scheduled presentation time, your electronic copy is due by Thursday, November 15, 6 pm.

Mobile Apps and Class-Period Warm-UpsClass-Period Warm-UpsFor this assignment, your task is to create and present a warm-up activity that could be used in a secondary school mathematics classroom. The purpose of this assignment is for you to experience putting together such a warm-up, reflecting on its potential, and presenting it to your colleagues. Your warm-up must incorporate technology in some meaningful way.

Requirements(1) Describe your warm-up activity.

Include the source of your warm-up activity if it is not an entirely novel creation. If it is entirely a novel creation, state that.

Describe how technology has been incorporated into your warm-up activity in a meaningful way.

(2) Connections. Describe how your warm-up activity interfaces with one or more elements on the Common

Core State Standards for Mathematics (www.corestandards.org/Math). Identify one or more CCSSM standards and/or mathematical practices and specifically describe how your activity addresses them.

(3) Present the warm-up. Submit an electronic copy of the information described above (description and connections),

suitable for easy uploading to our course website in order to share our activities. Invest up to 10 minutes of class executing the warm-up activity. This does not mean talking

through what you would do with students; rather, this is the time for you to actually carry out the activity.

Assessment Criteria: 25 points

(1) Description (5 pts): Include proper citation; technology incorporation(2) Connections (10 pts): Identify CCSSM connections and how activity addresses those(3) Presentation (10 pts): complete and accessible electronic copy; class presentation

You are required to do one of these two assignments. You may complete this assignment on your own or you my complete this assignment with one other classmate. You’ll need to sign-up for a presentation time slot. Regardless of your scheduled presentation time, your electronic copy is due by Thursday, November 15, 6 pm.
