    -Very probably, the earliest tradition was that Jesus had been buried anointed, like acommon criminal, dishonorably, by night. This tradition was unbearable to believers.

    actioninhissufferinganddeath.Itfunctionssociallyinregardstoburialtraditions,messianicallyinregardstoanointingofthemessiahinSeptuagintaltexts,and

    providesaseamlesstransitiontothePassoverFeasttotakeplacefollowingin

    chapter14.
