AN ARTS FESTIVAL YARN BOMBING PROJECT
Our Arts Festival is fast approaching. Please put Wednesday, 23rd October 2019 in your diaries for
the ‘Big Evening Community Event’ starting at 5:00pm with a picnic and performances. One of the
events in the Arts Festival is a ‘Yarn Bombing textile project’ in the Friendship Orchard garden.
During the Festival, the community will be invited to weave patterns and designs into the fence with
colourful yarn.
If you like to knit or crochet, and would like to make some colourful small flowers, circles, squares or
shapes for our project, please drop them into the art room or school office. We will be sewing these
woollen flowers and shapes onto the cyclone fence. If you have any questions, please visit me in the Art
Room to discuss the project further.
If you have any wool donations for our Yarn Bombing project, please drop them into the art room or
the office.
Thanks

The Smith Family student2student reading program. By Marnie and Sienna
The Smith Family invited some students from Manorvale Primary to participate in a
student2student reading program.
Ten students were given a mobile phone and a buddy who would ring them twice a week
for about 30 minutes. We would read them a book and they would help us to read words
we didn’t know. Sometimes they gave us words to rhyme with other words to practise our
spelling.
The buddies were patient and kind and some made up funny things to help read the words.
We were very lucky to be on this program and so we wrote notes to our buddies.
Thank you Smith Family from:

School Song
Next week at our Monday assembly, the Arts Festival will be opened by a performance of our brand new school song. A small group of students from Grades 1 - 6 have been working on this for the past year with Mr Hunter and Miss Bell. The Senior and Junior Choirs will perform for us, then we will all learn it in the following weeks to sing at assemblies as a school. Please find the lyrics on the following page for you to learn and practise at home.

Arts Festival - Apps to download
Miss Bell would like to let the Manorvale community know that some parts of the Arts Festival that will be on display in the Gym require the use of two apps. The first is called HP Reveal and is available on your smartphone or iPad for free. All you need to do is download the app and have internet access at school. The login details will be available at the Arts Festival exhibition, and there will be leaflets and students helpers to assist you. The second app you will need is a QR code reader. There are many types of this app that are free. Make the most of the Arts Festival by downloading these two apps!
