National development policy
• Malaysia inherited after independent, the remnants of the colonialists development policies.
• The main challenge after independent was to narrow the differential development gap and eradicate poverty.
• Govt planning in achieving the above is set out by national development policies (NDP- National Development Plan release every 5 years)

New Economic Policy
• 1971-1990
• Two main objectives are –
• - to reduce and eradicate poverty .. ..regardless of ethnicity
• - to restructure the society so as to ..eliminate community identification ..through economic sector.

• Port Klang Container Terminal (cargo loading time reduced from 11.7 –
8.9 hours )-TV3, Astro, TV9 etc- Telecommunication- Reduce size of public sector- Create employment.
