Life Chain 2015 Information
Due in part to our nation’s silence, another one million babies have died in their mother’s wombs in just this past year. Though the abortion rate has fallen in recent years, over 2,750 babies still die from abortion in just one day in the United states. With the Federeal government expanding abortion funding under the regulations written to implement the health car law, standing for live is more urgent than ever. On Sunday, October 4, from 2:00 PM—3:30 PM, thou-
sands of people who recognize God’s voice saying “choose life,” will take that message to the streets. They will stand silently side-by-side, holding signs that give truthful but loving warnings and exhortations that Abortion Hurts Women. Abortion Kills Children, Adoption: the Loving Option, Jesus Forgives & Heal, and Life, the F irst Inalienable Right.
There are no graphic pictures. We encourage you and our entire St. Lawrence O’Toole Community to join us for these nine-ty minutes. We are praying that this Life Chain will help women who contemplate abortion to change their minds and help all those around them to see that abortion is, indeed, NOT a choice at all, but a ser ious mistake. It will take a lot of people to fill up our assigned spot, 159th Street from Harlem Avenue to 80th Avenue in Orland/Tinley Park. This location was chosen to avoid the LaGrange Road construction. In order to allow for time to distribute signs, please plan to arrive by 2:00 PM.
Irish Dance Classes resume at St. Lawrence O'Toole on Thursday
Sept 18th. Class meets each Thursday from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM, in ’Toole Hall and is open to boys and girls 5 years and older The students will learn the traditional step and figure dances of Ireland. For information call Madeleine Weber at (630) 505-1799 after 5:00 PM or email [email protected]"
"If you are looking for an easy and meaningful gift , Fr. Mike Novick, pastor at Saint Lawrence O’Toole, has published his f irst book “ We Don’ t Live in Eden (But we can once
again, Believe Me).” Delores Madelener, a reporter at the Catholic New World newspaper, recent ly reviewed Fr. Mike’ s book and says “ Father calls it a book, but for me it was an 83-page personal memoir…It ’ s like he knows you and wants you to know him.” She later says “ The most surprising part of the book is the dozen pages of Novick’ s original poet ry.” Many have already enjoyed it . Share some light reading with someone you love!"
In today’ s Gospel Jesus says “ If a man
wishes to come af ter me, he must deny his very self, t ake up his cross, and follow in my steps.” The cross of Jesus and the crosses of his members can evangelize us: the sick, who bear illness with courage; the grieving, who hope against hope; the dying, who clearly t rust in the resurrect ion; the suffering of our poor brothers and sisters who are hungry and homeless, but who st ill t rust in God’s
love.
It ’ s A Guy Thing You are invited to j oin other Catholic men to learn how we apply our faith

Living Stewardship September 13, 2015 ~ 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (MARK 8:34)
When we truly believe that all we have is a gift from God, then we must be willing to give up some things so that we can share our blessings as God intended. Living a stewardship lifestyle means not only being responsible for our own life, but the lives of others as well. STEWARDSHIP PRAYER
Loving God, I come to you in thanksgiving, knowing that all I am and all that I have is a gift from you. In faith and love, help me to do your will. I am listening, Lord God.
Speak your words into the depth of my soul, that I may hear you clearly. I offer to you this day all the facets of my life, whether it be at home, at work, or at school—to be patient, to be merciful, to be generous, to be holy. Give me the wisdom and insight to understand your will for me and the fervor to fulfill my good intentions. I offer my gifts of time, talent and possessions to you as a true act of faith, to reflect my love for you and my neighbor. Help me to reach out to others as you my god have reached out to me.
Remember St . Lawrence O’Toole in your estate plans. St . Lawrence O’Toole has been blessed over the years to have received some generous gift s f rom parishioners and friends who have included our parish in their estate plans. The St . Lawrence O’ Toole Book Club will meet on Monday, September 14 @ 4:00 PM, in the Parish Off ice. Our book for September is Mrs. Grant and
Madame Jule by Jennifer Chiaverini. All are welcome to at tend. Good book, good conversat ion, good company promised. In 1844, Missouri belle Julia Dent
met dazzling horseman Lieutenant Ulysses S. Grant . Four years passed before t heir parents permit ted them to wed, and the groom’ s family refused to at tend the ceremony. Since childhood, Julia owned as a slave another Julia, known as Jule. She guarded her mist ress’ s closely held twin secrets: She had perilously poor vision but was gif ted wit h prophet ic sight . So it was t hat Jule became Julia’ s eyes to the world. And what a world it was, marked by gathering clouds of war. The Grants vowed never to be
separated. During the war, Julia would t ravel, oft en wit h Jule and the four Grant children, facing unreliable t ransportat ion and certain danger, to be at her husband’ s side. Julia and Jule saw two dif ferent wars. Julia spoke out for women but cont inued to hold Jule as a slave behind Union l ines. After Jule claims her freedom and leaves to become a prominent businesswoman, their paths cont inue to cross in interest ing ways, f inally meet ing at Grant ’ s Tomb in New York Cit y.
