What you really need to know!
To change from larger units to smaller units, multiply.
To change from smaller units to larger units, divide.
Inch Inch (in)(in)
Foot Foot (ft)(ft)
Yard Yard (yd)(yd)
Mile Mile (mi)(mi)
Ounce Ounce (fl oz)(fl oz)
Cup Cup (c)(c)
Pint Pint (pt)(pt)
Quart Quart (qt)(qt)
Gallon Gallon (gal)(gal)
Ounce Ounce (oz)(oz)
Pound Pound (lbs)(lbs)

1. Divide to go down
2. Multiply to go up
Example 1:
2 mi = ? ft
Feet are smaller than miles; so multiply!
2 x 5280 = 10,560 ft
Example 2:
5 pt = ? c
Cups are smaller than pints; multiply!
2 x 5 = 10 cups
Example 3:
The elevator in an office building has a weight limit posted of one and a half tons. How many pounds can the elevator safely hold?
1 ton = 2,000 pounds
Pounds are smaller than tons; multiply!
1 ½ x 2,000 = 3,000 pounds
Example 4:
1,000 in = ? ft
Feet are larger than inches; Divide!
1,000 ÷ 12 = 83 1/3 feet
Example 5:
6 qt = ? gal
Gallons are larger than quarts; Divide!
