Steve Becker
Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Golden State Foods
“GSF is a $5 billion dollar global company that is a very values driven corporation (our Creed reads: we believe in God and the dignity of all people). We have provided one-off training and learning solutions throughout our history, but it became clear that we needed a strategic approach to learning and development in 2009. I assessed the Disney Institute as a possible solution along with many other companies that would share best practices. We also had executives attend Ivy League programs and used tools like DDI and CCL in the past to develop our leaders. All of these approaches were effective, but were someone else’s solutions. None were designed for our unique culture. What we needed to do was to build a comprehensive training and development program in-house that might include best practices, but also one that was highly customized for us. It was quite obvious that we could not do this by ourselves. As I began to seek advice about a resource or partner to help us to build this infra-structure I was referred to Brainard Strategy by a number of trusted colleagues. Michael and his team met with me and our CEO to collaborate with us relative to the outcomes and options for the process. Michael was clearly a technical expert in building and delivering corporate learning initiatives, but fit was to be critical. Additionally, we needed a web-enabled solution as our managers and associates are spread out around the globe. Brainard Strategy was selected based on our comfort level with Michael and his team, their technical expertise and experience, and their flexible Learning Management System. We completed our design and implementation in 2009 and launched a blended approach to learning in 2010. With two years of experience under our belt now we are delighted with the outcome as well as the excellent partnership we have with the Brainard team.”
