God’s Word for this Week
Reading I: 1 Kings 19:16, 19-21 Reading II: Galatians 5:1, 13-18 Gospel: Luke 9:51-62
Scripture Focus
Today’s Gospel spells out what it means to follow Jesus, to be his disciple. James and John, “sons of thunder,” angry at being rejected by the Samaritans, want to call down fire from heaven to consume Jesus’ enemies. Jesus says there is no room for getting even in the Christian way of life. There is to be no violence. Luke develops the theme of discipleship further using three examples. Jesus tells the one who offers to follow him “wherever he goes” of the hardships involved. His strange reply to the man who wants to go home first to bury his father underlines the urgency to get on with proclaiming the reign of God. And finally there is a singleness of purpose involved in being a follower of Jesus. There can be no looking back to what one has left behind.
Life Focus How do you react when someone criticizes you or is hostile to you?
When in your life have you been called to change direction (put your hand to a different “plow”) because your desire to be a follower of Jesus?
What does it mean to your everyday life to be a follower of Jesus?
What is your reaction to being called by Jesus?

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Summer is Here!!! and things are slowly winding down. The children are finally out of
school and many of us will be travelling and reconnecting with those who are special to us. Summer is a time of rest and relaxation and things slow down in the parish as well. This bulletin will be the last ‘full’ bulletin until September. Things slow down but don’t stop altogether, so next Sunday we begin distribution of a ‘mini’ bulletin during July and August.
Summer Office Hours: During the months of July and August the office will not be
manned on a full time basis. It will be open Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This gives staff a chance to enjoy the lazy hazy days of summer too.
Sunday Collection Report: Received June 19, 2016:
►$3, 986.00 from 188 envelopes ►$120.00 from loose change ►Total: $4, 106.00
AWAY: I am on a break for R & R June 27 – July 11. In my absence: no daily Mass; funerals will be handled by
priests of the city; Sunday Masses July 2 - Fr. Ron Perron, July 3 – Monsignor John Caswell, July 9 & 10 – Monsignor John Caswell.
The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life: The Ignatian Spiritual
Exercises in Everyday Life, written out of Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s experience of God, are being offered in the Fall of 2016 at Villa Loyola. They will consist of 30 weeks of prayer material with small group gatherings to be held every second week during which you will learn strategies for discerning God’s will for you. The
Director of the Exercises will be Fr. Ronald Perron, S.J.. If you are interested in following the Spiritual Exercises or are unfamiliar with them and want to learn more, please join us at our introductory evening Tuesday June 28th 2016 at 7:00 pm at 4951 Long Lake Road (705-522-3502 ext. 0).
Prayer Support: The Anglican Church of Canada is having its national meeting this week. Very
serious issues concerning same sex weddings is on their agenda. Pray for them as they struggle to discern God’s will.

Inner City Home of Sudbury It’s almost that time of year again, when school will soon be
finished and families will be vacationing – that time of year that we all look forward to. However, those who are in financial need and crisis situations still need our help! We have had a very busy winter and I anticipate the same
will hold true for the summer months. Our shelves in the Food Bank are looking quite bare as donations have already slowed down this past month and we have been using any surplus food that we had from the winter food drives. At this time when the food supplies are so low, we have to purchase basic food items steadily, which is a tremendous drain on our financial resources (that also drop off during the summer months). Some of the items most needed at this time are: Macaroni & cheese, pork and beans, canned vegetables, canned corn, soups, canned meats & fish, potatoes, cereals, canned pasta sauce or canned tomatoes. Also in short supply, are toiletries such as hand soap, toothpaste, shampoo, razor blades and deodorant. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated and will go a long way to help someone in need. Food donations can be dropped off at 251 Elm St. Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or left in the grocery carts located at the entrances of the church. Thank you for your ongoing support and generosity and we wish you a happy and healthy summer. Mary Ali ~ Executive Director
