WHERE: DundeeFOR FANS OF: St Vincent,Regina Spektor, Lily AllenJIM SAYS: Be Charlotte has abusy summer of festivalsahead, kicking off thisSunday with an appear-ance on the T Break Stageat T in the Park.

Be Charlotte may be anew name on the scene, but the 18-year-old hasbeen working hard over thepast couple of years toestablish herself.

As Charlotte Brimner shereleased a few EPs, butwhen I caught her playing aradio session in Invernesslast year it was clear she wasshifting direction, and utilis-ing technology to great effect.

She may be a solo artist, butwith the use of live samplesand loops she creates a prettyfull sound.

Add a bit of rapping to herportfolio and you’ve got oneof the most interesting andexciting young artists around.

Charlotte said: “The namechange has been somethingI’d been thinking about for aquite a while and naturally mymusic has developed so it feltlike the perfect time tore-launch.”

I’m wary of referring to BeCharlotte as a “female EdSheeran”, but she takes thatas a compliment.

“Definitely! Ed Sheeran isvery inspiring to upcomingartists and to see a solo artistachieve what he has is incred-ible. The fact he can rap and

ROCKING twins The VanT’s hope lightning strikestwice.

The girls were both in the TBreak tent last year as ordi-nary punters but still turnedit into an event that shapedtheir careers.

They walked out with a newfavourite band — North Londonindie stars Wolf Alice.

Now they want to pull off thesame trick, because this timethey’ll be up on that stage givingit both barrels.

And they fully realise the impacta good display can have as theyaim for the big time.

‘They justblew us away’

One half of the duo, Chloe VanThompson, raved: “It was amazingto discover a new band like that.

“They are one of our favouritebands now. They stood out somuch.

“And we now even considerthem an influence on our music. We’d never seen them before —they just blew us away.”

Chloe said: “We were surprisedto get it this year and buzzing atthe same time.

“It was hard for it to sink in.We’ve seen how big people havegot from it.

“A few of our friends have doneit and they are on big Britishtours now.

“It’s definitely a springboard anda platform to bigger things.

“It’s a possibility for anyone.Other people are going to see ourname and recognise it from nowon.”

But even though they know howbig it is, they’re running a tightship. There are no plans to get toostressed out and blow their big

chance. Chloe said: “We don’tsee it as any pressure justbecause we’re one of the 16picked.

“We’ll have fun up there, likewe do every time we play. We’re looking forward to itmore than anything.”

But with plenty of T experi-ence under their belt, the girlsare just hoping the spirit ofBalado makes it’s way to Stra-thallan today.

Chloe added: “The crowdmakes T in the Park.

“The banter is better thananything else.

“So hopefully that continuesat the new venue — I’m sure itwill.”lFor more information, go tofacebook.com/TheVanTs
