Whistable on the 16th of April. Sitting down at the Whistable shore, armed with Korean chilli-paste and fish & chips, the taste of fresh oysters was priceless. On the way back, the group visited one of the oldest Cathedrals in England, Canterbury cathedral (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). It was a very memorable and tummy-filling trip! Badminton – 18. April (unofficial event)
Health conscious PGs had yet again an exciting night of physical exercise, where Jaehwa had a chance to demonstrate his masterful badminton skills. After playing for an hour, the players ended the night with the PG’s usual method of re-hydration: downing pints of beer at Eastside. Special thanks to Yein, who booked the courts and purchased the shuttlecocks.
CIONS at Cambridge – 10. April
The 10th CIONS conference took place at Cambridge University. Dr. Choi Wonjae [Mech. Eng.] and Dr. Chung Sangwon [Mat.] gave a talk on ‘Modelling for ultrasound testing in NDE’ and ‘Fibrous Scaffold Design for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine’,
respectively, from Imperial College. The session was concluded with a talk by a North Korean refugee, Kim Joo-il [Correspondent, Radio Free Asia] on ‘North Korea’s plight and the truth’, which was a touching and moving insight into an inconvenient truth. After the conference, punting was next in line. With an incredibly nice weather, everyone got on a tiny
wiggly boat that had to be self-punted. For most of the participants, it was their first time punting – it seemed easy at first, but was quite a challenge. (Un)fortunately, everyone managed to stay dry and the pleasant day came to an end at a bar, where members of different universities had a chance to socialise and say au revoir.
Canterbury Oyster Trip – 16. April (unofficial event)
As the end of the oyster season was fast approaching, a bunch of hungry PGs got onto the last wave to try the
fresh oysters. Brilliantly organised by Jin-Young, more than 15 people in 3 cars hit the road to Canterbury &

March EventsUG Careers Fair – 4. March
Careers Fair for the ICKS UG students was held for the first time in the ICKS history. More than forty enthusiastic ICKS members including Big Daddies were present to listen to the personal experiences and advice
of the guest speakers. Many fields were covered, such as investment banking, technical research personnel, KATUSA, and PhD studies in USA and UK. The PG Committee hopes to make this an annual event in order
to help and guide the UG students to plan their future. Many thanks to the speakers (they were presented with a small gift) and the audience for making this event a successful one. Good luck to all ICKS members looking for a job/placement! ICKS Presidential Election – 24. March
As the UGs enter their exam term, the new ICKS presidential election was held in March. Many thought that the race will be neck and neck, but Hwang Se Won [Civ. Eng. UG] won by a landslide. Se Won dedicated himself to ICKS as the football captain last year and will endeavour to successfully lead ICKS in the upcoming academic year.
The PG committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Yong Kwan [EEE UG], who completed his fruitful year as the president. All the best to both ex- and the new-president!

PG Dinner – 25. March
This year’s first PG gathering was held at Assa2. It was an excellent opportunity to leave all the stress behind and enjoy an evening with fellow members. Better yet, a couple of newcomers came along to mingle and start off their ICKS social life. In the middle of the event, a surprise trivia quiz time with prizes was held. The group
was split up into three teams and furiously competed for the prizes. One special award was given to Jaehwa [EEE PhD], for his excellence in non-sense questions. As always, PG gathering meant drinking – managed to empty (at least) 16 bottles of Soju with dinner. Then everyone went across the street for a quick pint (and Bell’s whisky for some) before making a final stop at a Karaoke, where everyone was impressed(?) with HoKwon’s eum-joo-ga-moo talent. April EventsIndoor Football – 7. April
As a few members were taking a coffee break by the Queen’s Tower, they spontaneously decided to organise a sporting event. The next week, thirteen members
took part in indoor football (not basketball, thanks to someone) at Ethos. Se Won and Taekbo – relatively younger players – dominated much of the game, scoring most of the goals. But everyone there, whether young or old, enjoyed the fun and excitement of the intense session so much that which team won and how many goals were scored did not matter in the end.
