Hymn: TiS 175
1. Did you ever see a kookaburra laugh?
Did you ever see a giraffe?
Did you ever ride in on a wave?
Did you ever see a puppy act brave?
Where do all the good things come from?
Good things great and small.
Where do all the good things come from?
God made them all.
2. Did you ever keep a cocoon?
Did you ever see a full moon?
Did you ever hold a fluffy new chick?
Did you ever see a clown do tricks?
Where do all the good things come from? ...
3. Have you ever been in a fight?
And maybe cried all night?
Did you ever make up and be friends?
It’s good the way broken things mend!
Where do all the good things come from? ...

Greeting: The Lord be with you.
AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)
Prayer of Preparation:
As we gather as God's people let us pray together:
God of love and peace, you know what we think and feel.
Touch our hearts that our thoughts and actions may be good so that
we may love you and honour you, through Jesus Christ our Lord,
AMEN.
4
The Summary of the Commandments:
‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the
Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all
your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and
first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your
neighbour as yourself.’
Kyrie eleison (How Setting)
5
The Confession
Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's
forgiveness.
God of mercy and grace,
we have sometimes thought wrong things,
and done wrong things and
we have not always loved each other as we should.
We are sorry.
Forgive us and help us to love and obey you ,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Absolution {Celebrant}
Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn
to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your
sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal
life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Day
O God, you invite the humble and the sinful to take their place in the
festive assembly of the new covenant: teach your Church always to
honour the presence of the Lord in the poor and the outcast, so that we
may learn to recognise each other as brothers and sisters gathered
together around your table. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for
ever and ever. Amen.
THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD
Readings from CEV
First Reading: Hebrews 13:1-16
Keep being concerned about each other as the Lord’s followers should. Be
sure to welcome strangers into your home. By doing this, some people have
welcomed angels as guests, without even knowing it. Remember the Lord’s
people who are in jail and be concerned for them. Don’t forget those who
are suffering, but imagine that you are there with them. Have respect for
marriage. Don’t fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have. The
Lord has promised that he will not leave us or desert us. That should make
you feel like saying, “The Lord helps me! Why should I be afraid of what
people can do to me?” Jesus Christ never changes! He is the same yesterday,
today, and forever.
But don’t forget to help others and to share your possessions with them.
This too is like offering a sacrifice that pleases God.
Response: Hear the word of the Lord,
THANKS BE TO GOD
9
Psalm: 81.1, 10-16
1 O sing joyfully to God our strength:
shout in triumph to the God of Jacob. 10
‘I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up from the land of Egypt:
open wide your mouth, and I will fill it. 11
‘But my people would not listen to my voice:
and Israel would have none of me. 12
‘So I left them to the stubbornness of their hearts:
to walk according to their own designs. 13
‘If only my people would listen:
if Israel would but walk in my ways, 14
‘I would soon put down their enemies:
and turn my hand against their adversaries. 15
‘Those that hate the Lord would cringe before him:
and their punishment would last for ever. 16
‘But Israel I would feed with the finest wheat:
and satisfy you with honey from the rocks.’

WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET
OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD.
The Lord be with you
AND ALSO WITH YOU
The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Luke chapter 14
beginning at the 1st
verse.
GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.
One Sabbath, Jesus was having dinner in the home of an important Pharisee,
and everyone was carefully watching Jesus. Jesus saw how the guests had
tried to take the best seats. So he told them: When you are invited to a
wedding feast, don’t sit in the best place. Someone more important may
have been invited. Then the one who invited you will come and say, “Give
your place to this other guest!” You will be embarrassed and will have to sit
in the worst place. When you are invited to be a guest, go and sit in the
worst place. Then the one who invited you may come and say, “My friend,
take a better seat!” You will then be honoured in front of all the other
guests. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you
humble yourself, you will be honoured.
Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,
PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.
Alleluia (sung by all)

THE GREETING OF PEACE (all stand)
{Celebrant} We are the body of Christ.
His Spirit is with us.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
[A greeting of peace is exchanged with those around us]
Offertory Hymn: TiS 658
1. I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin
my hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord;
is it I, Lord?
I have heard you
calling in the night;
I will go, Lord,
if you lead me.
I will hold your
people in my heart.
2. I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain;
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my word to them.
Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord...
3. I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame,
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide
till their hearts are satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord...

Final Hymn: Jesus bids us shine
Jesus bids us shine with a pure clear light,
Like a little candle burning in the night.
In this world is darkness, so we must shine.
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine, first of all for him;
Well he sees and knows it, if our light grows dim;
He looks down from heaven to see us shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine then for all around;
Many kinds of darkness in the world abound;
Sin and want and sorrow; so we must shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine with a pure clear light,
Like a little candle burning in the night.
In this world is darkness, so we must shine.
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
Blessing
Dismissal
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord:
IN THE NAME OF CHRIST. AMEN
