Hymn: TiS 224(i)

1. All hail the power of Jesus’ name;

let angels prostrate fall;

bring forth the royal diadem

to crown him Lord of all.

2. Crown him, you martyrs of our

God,

who from his altar call;

praise him whose way of pain you

trod,

and crown him Lord of all.

3. As heirs of Israel’s chosen race

and ransomed from the fall,

hail him who saves you by his grace,

and crown him Lord of all.

4. Sinners, whose love cannot forget

the wormwood and the gall,

go spread your treasures at his feet

and crown him Lord of all.

5. Let every tribe and every tongue

responsive to his call,

now shout in universal song

and crown him Lord of all.

Edward Perronet

1726–92 alt.

Greeting: The Lord be with you.

AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)

Sentence: Of Jesus many said, ‘What is this wisdom that has been given

to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands!’ Mark 6.2

Prayer of Preparation:

As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden:

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration

of your Holy Spirit,

that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name,

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Summary of the Commandments:

‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord

your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your

mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first

commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as

yourself.’

Kyrie eleison (Kew Setting)

The Confession

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's

forgiveness.

Merciful God, our maker and our judge,

we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,

and in what we have failed to do:

we have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves;

we repent, and are sorry for all our sins.

Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you

in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Page 5: 10am Pew Sheet, HTK, July 8 2012

5

The Absolution (Celebrant)

Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to

him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins,

strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Day

O Lord our God,

you are always more ready to bestow

your good gifts upon us

than we are to seek them;

and more willing to give than we desire or deserve:

in our every need,

grant us the first and best of all your gifts,

the Spirit who makes us your children.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV)

First Reading: 2 Samuel 5.1-5, 9-10

1 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, ‘Look,

we are your bone and flesh. 2 For some time, while Saul was king over

us, it was you who led out Israel and brought it in. The Lord said to you: It

is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler

over Israel.’ 3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and

King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and

they anointed David king over Israel. 4 David was thirty years old when

he began to reign, and he reigned for forty years. 5 At Hebron he

reigned over Judah for seven years and six months; and at Jerusalem he

reigned over all Israel and Judah for thirty-three years. 9 David occupied

the stronghold, and named it the city of David. David built the city all

around from the Millo inwards. 10 And David became greater and

greater, for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him.

Response: Hear the word of the Lord,

THANKS BE TO GOD

Page 7: 10am Pew Sheet, HTK, July 8 2012

Psalm: 48:8-13

8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts:

in the city of our God, which God has established for ever.

9 We have called to mind your loving-kindness, O God:

in the midst of your temple.

10 As your name is great, O God, so also is your praise:

even to the ends of the earth.

11 Your right hand is full of victory —let Zion’s hill rejoice:

let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of your judgements.

12 Walk about Zion, go round about her, and count all her towers:

consider well her ramparts, pass through her palaces;

13 That you may tell those who come after that such is God:

our God for ever and ever, and he will guide us eternally.

Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 12.2-10

2 I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third

heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows.

3 And I know that such a person—whether in the body or out of the body I do

not know; God knows— 4 was caught up into Paradise and heard things that

are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat. 5 On behalf of such

a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my

weaknesses. 6 But if I wish to boast, I will not be a fool, for I will be speaking

the truth. But I refrain from it, so that no one may think better of me than

what is seen in me or heard from me, 7 even considering the exceptional

character of the revelations. Therefore, to keep me from being too elated, a

thorn was given to me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, to

keep me from being too elated. 8 Three times I appealed to the Lord about

this, that it would leave me, 9 but he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for

you, for power is made perfect in weakness.’ So, I will boast all the more

gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10

Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions,

and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am

strong.

Response: Hear the word of the Lord,

THANKS BE TO GOD

Gradual Hymn: TiS 618

1. What does the Lord require

for praise and offering?

What sacrifice desire

or tribute bid you bring?

Do justly;

love mercy;

walk humbly with

your God.

2. Rulers of earth, give ear!

should you not justice show?

Will God your pleading hear,

while crime and cruelty grow?

Do justly;

love mercy;

walk humbly with

your God.

3. Leaders in wealth and trade,

for whom the worker toils,

think not to win God’s aid

if greed your commerce soils.

Do justly;

love mercy;

walk humbly with

your God.

4. Still down the ages ring

the prophet’s stern commands:

to merchant, worker, king,

he brings God’s high demands.

Do justly;

love mercy;

walk humbly with

your God.

5. How shall our life fulfil

God’s law so hard and high?

Let Christ endue our will

with grace to fortify.

Then justly,

in mercy,

we’ll humbly walk

with God.

We stand for the reading of the Holy Gospel as a sign of respect as we greet

our Lord who is present in His Holy Word.

The Lord be with you

AND ALSO WITH YOU

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Mark chapter 6

beginning at the 1st

verse.

GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

1 He left that place and came to his home town, and his disciples followed

him. 2 On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who

heard him were astounded. They said, ‘Where did this man get all this? What

is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being

done by his hands! 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother

of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with

us?’ And they took offence at him. 4 Then Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are

not without honour, except in their home town, and among their own kin,

and in their own house.’ 5 And he could do no deed of power there, except

that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. 6 And he was

amazed at their unbelief. Then he went about among the villages teaching. 7

He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them

authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He ordered them to take nothing for

their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; 9 but

to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. 10 He said to them, ‘Wherever

you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. 11 If any place will

not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the

dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.’ 12 So they went out

and proclaimed that all should repent. 13 They cast out many demons, and

anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,

PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

SERMON - (copy of sermon available at back of church)

The Nicene Creed

Let us together affirm the faith of the Church.

We believe in one God,

the Father, the almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary

and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge

the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son

is worshipped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE GREETING OF PEACE (all stand)

{Celebrant} We are the body of Christ. His Spirit is with us.

The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

[A greeting of peace is exchanged with those around us]

Offertory Hymn: TiS 560

1. All my hope on God is founded;

all my trust he will renew,

through all change and chance he

guides me,

only good and only true.

God unknown,

he alone

calls my heart to be his own.

2. Human pride and earthly glory,

sword and crown betray our trust;

all we build with care and labour,

tower and temple, fall to dust.

But God’s power,

hour by hour,

is my temple and my tower.

3. God’s great goodness lasts for

ever,

deep his wisdom, passing thought;

splendour, light and life attend him,

beauty springing out of naught.

Evermore

from his store

new-born worlds rise and adore.

4. Daily the almighty giver

will his bounteous gifts bestow;

in his will our souls find pleasure,

leading us where’er we go.

Love will stand

at his hand,

joy shall wait for his command.

5. Still from earth to God eternal

sacrifice of praise be done,

high above all praises praising

for the gift of Christ his Son.

Hear Christ call

one and all:

those who follow shall not fall.

Priest: in songs of never ending praise:

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever. Amen.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION

{Celebrant} We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

We who are many are one body,

For we all share in the one bread.

Agnus Dei

We pray together:

Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us.

Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us.

Jesus, redeemer of the world, grant us your peace.

Come let us take this holy sacrament of the body and blood of Christ in

remembrance that he died for us, and feed on him in our hearts by faith

with thanksgiving.

Baptised Christians who receive communion in their own church

are invited to share communion with us.

Communion wine may be received:

(a) from the common cup from the first of the two Eucharistic Assistants.

(b) by intinction from the second of the Eucharistic Assistants where a small

part of the wafer is carefully dipped in the wine, or

(c) from an individual glass on request from the first Eucharistic Assistant.

Or you may choose to receive the wafer only (Communion in one kind).

THE SENDING OUT OF GOD'S PEOPLE

Post-Communion Prayer

Prayer of self-offering

Father, we offer ourselves to you

as a living sacrifice

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Send us out in the power of your Spirit

to live and work to your praise and glory. AMEN

Final Hymn: TiS 531

1. Sent forth by God’s blessing, our true faith confessing,

the people of God from his table take leave.

The supper is ended: may now be extended

the fruits of his service in all who believe.

The seed of his teaching, our hungry souls reaching,

shall blossom in action for all humankind.

His grace shall incite us, his love shall unite us

to work for his kingdom, his purpose to find.

2. With praise and thanksgiving to God ever-living

the tasks of our everyday life we will face,

our faith ever sharing, in love ever caring,

embracing as neighbours all those of each race.

One feast that has fed us, one light that has led us,

unite us as one in his life that we share.

Then may all the living, with praise and thanksgiving,

give honour to Christ and his name that we bear.
