Camera Obscura • A Frenchman called Joseph Nicéphore

Niépce made the first camera and took the first picture in 1814 it was called Camera Obscura

• the picture was taken by having the shutter left open for eight hours and faded shortly after.

Daguerreotype • French artist took first fixed image on the

daguerreotype • Picture didn’t fade and took less than

thirty minutes of exposure

Calotype• William Henry Talbot created the process

of calotype in 1841• This involves the first negative-positive

printing process then making multiple copies of that picture

Collodion Camera • The collodion process was invented by

Frederick Scott Archer in 1851• Allowed him to take a picture with only

two or three seconds of sunlight exposure

Panoramic Camera • In 1859 Thomas Sutton developed a

camera with a wide angle lens • The lens was a glass sphere filled with

water

• Was invented in 1871 by Richard Leach Maddox

• Made a gelatin dry plate made of silver bromide

• Negatives are no longer needed
