HARI Times JUN—AUG 2016
Dear HARI Devotees,
The programs at HARI never cease to amaze us. March, April and May went by very quickly with all the events like
Ramnavami, Holi, Gudi Padva and other festivals being well attended by all of you.
The various committees at HARI are taking us through a lot of transformation in terms of community outreach, facili-
ties upgrades, parking lot expansion, etc. All these efforts are towards consolidating our presence and vision for
years and years to come in our area. We have established good relations with Fairview Township officials, and towards
this, established a $ 500 scholarship for a deserving Senior from the Red Land Schools, and have been attending the
Interfaith Services programs in the greater Harrisburg area.
HARI’s 40th Anniversary celebrations started off with a big bang with Ramnavami celebrations and a 24 hour non-stop
recitation of Ramcharitmanas. This was followed by the Mega event SANSKRITI, a one of a kind event that brought
together HARI’s 40 years of history along with the rich culture of the Hindu religion through dance and song. It was
heart warming to see the outpouring of support from our community for this event, not only by way of participating in
the cultural program, but also by way of sponsorships and donations. The cultural program under the able guidance and
leadership of Dr Renu and Dr Nirmal Joshi was a huge success with 24 performances and 200 participants. There were
approximately 1200 people in attendance! Many of our devotees from far and near supported us financially as we ex-
plained our capital project objectives for the year and the need to fund these projects. Sponsorships from $250 to
$10000 and donations from $51 to $1000 were received and the final tally on the day of SANSKRITI turned out to be
$205,250! We can’t thank our devotees enough for this show of support through ‘taan, maan and dhan’ and are very
humbled and thank our devotees for their spontaneous contributions to our community when called for.
As we do not now just be satisfied with the success of efforts in the past, we have already embarked on the project
to expand parking facilities at the temple, we are well on our way with plans for the temple parking lot expansion. This
is the first step on the roadmap to expanding our temple premises. Other building improvements like replacing the
guard rails along the approach to the front entrance of the temple building, mens/ womens toilet upgrades, exterior
lighting, etc are in the plans with the assurance that your precious donations and sponsorship will very carefully be put
to use for necessary projects that will help all devotees with their visit to the temple in the future. As you visit the
temple over a period of the next few months you will see construction and modifications either initiated or in pro-
gress towards these goals.

Update on HARI Scholarships:
The HARI scholarships are given to the graduating high school seniors for purpose of advancing their education. This year,
as a part of public outreach and giving back, a new scholarship was also awarded to a Fairview township student attending the
Redland School, who has shown personal growth and is committed to volunteer work within the community. It was great to
see increased interest in the HARI scholarships. Seeing the community growth, and interest in the scholarships, it’s cru-
cial that we all keep supporting the trust fund with donations and support to the HARI.
The scholarship applicants and award winners for 2016 are Harsh Shah, Sagar Kumar, Venkatiraghavan Srimat, Anusha
Sanivarapu, Aditi Kulkarni, Pravallika Sanke, Shivansh Sachdeva and Julia Zarichenko (Redland School).
We all wish the young graduates a bright future ahead and may Lord Rama guide everyone starting a new journey on
the right path!
Here is what some of the award winners had to say about how the temple has influenced them.
Anusha Sanivarapu: “HARI has taught me the value of not just a religion, but also a deeper understanding of life. Aspects I have
learned in HARI I use in my everyday life such as respect, service, passion, and teamwork through diversity. “
Venkatiraghavan Srimat: “Having been with the Hari temple for most of my years in America, i have learned a few things. Even in
the darkest times when you have no one to turn to, God is there for you. I have also learned that Hari temple is a place that brings
people together despite our differences. “
Sagar Kumar: “Through HARI Temple, I have learned that Religion is a concept that brings entirely different people together and
helps them bond because of the similarities in their faith and beliefs."
Shivansh Sachdeva:“The Hari Temple has set a mark on me throughout my childhood in that it has taught me about cultural values
and a system of faith that I will always be able to turn to, whether I am going through high or lows. The culmination of all these ex-
periences from Hari will follow me throughout life, guiding me to be a man of respect, morals, peace, family values, and a sense of
culture.”
Harsh Shah: “I'm sincerely grateful for the scholarship and I hope to achieve many great things at Duquesne University in Pitts-
burgh. Over the many years I attended HARI school … I have appreciated how much Gujarati I learned at HARI Sunday school and
how it has enhanced my communication with my grandparents. I will forever be thankful to be able to communicate with my family
in India. …”

HARI has been very fortunate over the past few years in having the monthly Havans at the temple
under the guidance of Pu. Shastriji and Pu. Swamiji. In continuation of this tradition, the Havan
schedule for 2016 is listed in the table below. Thank you to all the devotees that have generously
agreed to sponsor these Havans. As you can see, there are only two open sponsorships remaining—
for the months of June and July. If you or someone you know would like to sponsor either of these
two months please contact Anil Shenoy at [email protected] or 717.254.3025. Continuing
the tradition of having the monthly Havans at HARI provides another avenue for the community to
come together, besides getting blessings from the Lord. Sponsoring the Prasad after the Havan is
a great sign of kindness on behalf of the sponsors, but please do not feel obligated to have an
elaborate spread of food for the dinner Prasad. A simple dinner Prasad can suffice for the occa-

HARI SCHOOL
Dear Students and Parents, Namaste!
A year has whizzed by! Unbelievably quickly. This truly has been another eventful year for HARI School.
We started the year on an auspicious note with a guided Sri Ganesha puja, which was performed by students themselves; we sought
the blessings of Sri Ganesha for a fruitful year ahead. We celebrated Dussehra with Ravan Dahan and during Deepavali we had our
students do hands on activities like making lanterns, etc. At the onset of New Year, we implemented new curriculum for religion as
well as Hindi classes. On Vasant Panchami our students performed Saraswati Puja and took the blessings of Devi Saraswati, god-
dess of knowledge, for their bright academic future. Over the years, Holi celebration has become HARI School’s marquee event
with colorful and ebullient performances by our students. The well attended field trip to the beautiful Shri Swaminarayan Mandir at
Robbinsville was a short but a nice spiritual getaway for our students and parents. Mother’s Day Havan once again reinforced the
myriad sacrifices mothers make every day.
On May 1, we introduced a new tradition of Guru Vandana at HARI
School. Close to 40 teachers, mostly from grade schools, including a few
school principals, representing over eight school districts in the region
attended the program. This was probably for the first time so many peo-
ple from different religious and cultural backgrounds converged at the
HARI Temple for a cultural program. The program culminated with a
befitting felicitation ceremony for the teachers. In a survey administered
after the program, teachers profusely appreciated this gesture by HARI
community. Some of the teachers had this to say: “This was an out-
standing event in which we educators could not have felt more warmly
honored. I feel very privileged to have been invited,” “Thank you so
much for making us feel appreciated! It was a great day and I couldn't
brag enough about it to friends, family, co-workers. Thank you for the
amazing students you bring to us each day,” “This was an amazing day.
I have never felt so honored to perform the daily duties in which I love.
Thank you for making what I do so special.” In the coming days, I am sure these educators will be-
come our cultural ambassadors and help permeate the spirit of Hinduism in the local communities.
In a nutshell we have provided ample opportunities to our students to imbibe Hindu cultural values and take pride in our heritage.
Each and every program we conducted throughout the year added to our students experience and provided them with an exposure to
the greatness and universalism of Hindu culture.
All of the activities and events our students celebrated and enjoyed have been possible due to your active participation and volun-
teering. Thank you.
Have a great summer break!
Sincerely,
