From the Superintendent
Veterans Day Breakfast
It is with great pleasure that we would like to invite Veterans and Active Military
Personnel that reside in the Miami East School District or graduated from Miami East Schools to
the Miami East High School for our annual Veterans Day Breakfast. Spouses are welcome to
attend. The breakfast will take place on Friday, November 8th at 8:30am in the MEHS
cafeteria. Please help spread the word so that Miami East can recognize those who deserve the
honor.
Veterans are men and women who served in the military (U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air
Force, and Coast Guard) in times of war or peace.
America home of the free
because of the brave
Have you hugged a Veteran today?
Since the birth of our Nation, American patriots have stepped forward to serve our country and
defend our way of life. With honor and distinction, generations of servicemen and women have
taken up arms to win our independence, preserve our Union, and secure our freedom. From the
Minutemen to our Post-9/11 Generation, these heroes have put their lives on the line so that we
might live in a world that is safer, freer, and more just, and we owe them a profound debt of
gratitude. On Veterans Day, we salute the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast
Guardsmen who have rendered the highest service any American can offer, and we rededicate
ourselves to fulfilling our commitment to all those who serve in our name.
This day, and every day, we pay tribute to America's sons and daughters who have answered our
country's call. We recognize the sacrifice of those who have been part of the finest fighting force
the world has ever known and the loved ones who stand beside them. We will never forget the
heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice and all those who have not yet returned home. As a
grateful Nation, let us show our appreciation by honoring all our veterans and working to ensure
the promise of America is within the reach of all who have protected it.
Miami East Local Schools November 8, 2019
Thank you!
We would like to thank everyone that supported the district during the November 5th election.
The Miami East School District was once again blessed with the support of its community. The
voter approval shows the level of support and confidence this community continues to display in
its schools and staff. On behalf of the entire District we thank all of you!
Thanksgiving Holiday
There will be NO SCHOOL at Miami East on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,
November 27-29 in honor of the Thanksgiving Holiday. School will resume on Monday,
December 2nd.
A Thanksgiving Note from your Miami East Education Foundation . . .
We share many blessings this Thanksgiving, especially our students. Daily they entertain and inspire us
with their activities and accomplishments. In addition, they are our future. Investing today in their
growth and development will pay dividends in ways we can only imagine. Every dollar you donate to the
Miami East Education Foundation is used for classroom materials and learning experiences not covered
through public funding and for scholarships for our graduating seniors. To learn how to donate, visit the
Foundation section on the school website, talk to your building principal or Dr. Rappold, or email Beth
Culbertson ([email protected]). Please remember there is no such thing as a small donation—every
dollar counts. Submitted for the Foundation by Beth Culbertson
Girls on the Run
The 32 members of Girls on the Run in the elementary have selected their community impact project and would love to have your support. For their project this year the girls have decided that they would like to make an impact in the life of a newborn baby collecting new baby blankets. The girls are going to take the donations of the baby blankets to area hospitals to be donated to the new parents upon the arrival of their newborn. The girls will begin accepting donations on Monday, October 28. Donations can be made until Friday, November 15. Donation boxes will be placed at doorways of the buildings. Community members may take their donations to Woodward's Animal Nutrition located at 4750 US 36 E between the hours of 6 and 8 pm Monday through Friday.

Elementary Title 1 Teachers
(Pictured left to right) Mrs. Kristin True, Miss Chelsea Black, Mrs. Amy Wright, Mrs. Jennifer Moore, Mrs. Rhea
Kirk
In Title 1, our students work with Title 1 teachers in a small group setting. This allows for more
focused instruction on skills students are working on in the classroom. Title 1 is thirty minutes
each day.
As Title 1 teachers, we work closely with your child's teacher to provide extra support to
reinforce skills in a variety of ways. Skill practice includes a variety of hands-on manipulatives
and opportunities for students to deepen their understanding.
We are excited to be working with your children this year! Please feel free to email us with any
questions or concerns.
This year’s district title makes it 9 straight for the program! S/O to all players past and present for this accomplishment!

What Zone Are You In?
What do all classrooms in the elementary building have in common? They all use the
Zones of Regulation! The "Zones" (what it is normally referred to in our building) is an easy-to-
use framework to help teach students strategies for emotional control and self-regulation. The
Zones approach uses four colors (green, yellow, red, and blue) to help students identify how they
are feeling.
This framework allows students to better understand how to notice our body’s signals,
detect triggers, read social context and consider how their behavior impacts those around them.
When your students get home from school, ask them, What Zone are you in?
FFA Sponsors Coloring Contest
CASSTOWN, OH - The Agricultural Advocacy Committee of the Miami East-MVCTC
FFA Chapter recently sponsored a coloring contest at Miami East Elementary. The event was
held to celebrate National Sheep Day on Saturday, October 26.
Members of the Ag Advocacy Committee challenged the students in Kindergarten and
were given a sheep picture to color. FFA members evaluated the pictures and awarded first
place to each homeroom. The results are as follows:
Mrs. Amy Gerlach – Harper Addington
Mrs. Stephanie Larson – Grant Davis
Mr. Preston Elifritz – Weston Young
Mr. Justin Roeth – Luke Knoop
Each student participating received a pencil, bookmark and candy treat. The first place picture in
each homeroom was awarded a special prize of a sheep stuffed animal. Congratulations to the
winners!
During the event, the committee members shared that baseballs and tennis balls are both made
from sheep wool fiber. Sheep have a fantastic memory and can retain identification of people or
places for many years. Miami County is home to multiple sheep producers and farmers.
Members of the Agricultural Advocacy Committee involved in the project were Ella Demmitt,
Ethan Fine, Keira Kirby, and Adi Richter.

Pioneer Electric
After nearly a decade, Pioneer Electric is bringing our Youth Tour back to area students. We are thrilled to once again offer this trip and hope you will help us spread the word and encourage your students to apply. Just make sure they are the son or daughter of a Pioneer member!
This all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., is for one or two high school sophomores or juniors. It’s a week-long trip that gives high school students the opportunity to use leadership skills in addition to meeting with their congressional leaders at the U.S. Capitol, learning more about the cooperative business model, making new friends from across the state and country. They’ll also get to see many of the famous Washington, D.C., sites.
We certainly appreciate any help you can provide in promoting the trip to your students. I have attached materials that will help you — if there’s anything else we can provide to make it easier on you, please let us know. Use these materials to spread the word through school announcements, school electronic or paper newsletter, electric bulletin boards, FFA or social studies classes, your school website, social media outlets, or other student groups/organizations.
Additional information and the application can be found at: https://www.pioneerec.com/its-back-youth-
tour-returns-pioneer-electric If you have any questions about the Youth Tour program please do not hesitate to reach out.
