In an independently conducted survey that wos reported in a special supplement enlitled, 'Executive Education: is tt Making the Grade,' several insmutions offering executive- education programs were judged according to the following criteria: a dedication to applied research and innovation; an appreciation for teaching excellence; a focus on marketdriven quality; and a strategy for optimhing the insmution's distinctive competencies. The Center captured top spots in two of these categories.

in the category of 'Niche Player,' designated to recognize an insmution's dislinctive competencies in the field of executive education, the Center was listed among the top five with the Untversity of Tennessee, Aspen Insmute, Brookings Insmutlon, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The article stated that 'The Center for Creative Leadership holds clear market share dominance in the area of leader- ship development. CCL's investment in R&D in leader- ship has been turned into a formidable competttive weapon.'

In the category of 'Innovator,' the Center was one of the top five insmutions noted for its dedication to applied research and innovation. Other contenders were the Kellogg School at Northwestern University, the Slwn School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Universlty of Michigan School of Business Administration, and the insmute for Management Devel- opment.

Call For Papers The Center is sponsoring the second annual Kenneth E.

Clark Research Award for the best unpublished paper by an undergraduate or graduate student on the subject of leadership. This award is named in honor of the d i n - gulshed scholar and former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Center, who served as President and Chief Executive Officer from 198 1-1 985.

The first-place award will Include a prize of $1,500; the author of the paper judged as honorable mention will receive $750. Deadline for submission of papers is August 31,1993.
