BackgroundIn 2008 the Ministry of Health announced a significant investment into strengthening the Māori health workforce including:
•Training more nurses and midwives
•Promoting clinical leadership
•Increasing the size and quality of the frontline clinical workforce

Role of Nursing Council NZ
• Governed by Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003
• Purpose of the Act to protect health and safety of members of the public
• Does this by ensuring nurses are safe and competent to practice
Nurses in New Zealand• In 2013, over 50,000 nurses in NZ • All nurses are required to make an annual declaration of continuing competence
• 5% of practising nurses are selected annually to complete a recertification audit of continuing competence requirements
Setting up for a regulated health profession• Initially an education platform
• Understanding and accepting differences in language and comprehension between health, IT and education
• Regulation has a very different set of requirements to an education platform

• Sharing can be for any length of time, and if the nurse wants access withdrawn they can do that at any time

• Nurse assessors or peer reviewers can add their reviews to the feedback section
