The DEFINOX butterfly valveconsists of:• a polished 316L stainless steelone-piece disc,• o'ring,• a food quality elastomer seal:The seal is an essential componentof the butterfly valve. It must beselected with care and adapted tothe service conditions of theprocess. Identification of the sealis also necessary for maintenanceoperations. Butterfly valves aredelivered as standard with an
EPDM seal, except for DN 125which comes with a “FKM”fluorated elastomer seal.• Two symmetrical 316L stainlesssteel half-bodies,• Securing screws (M6) in 304stainless steel,• An operating device.
These valves can be used at 140°Cmaximum, during a short time andvalve open only (during sterilizationfor instance).
Design
DEFINOX butterfly valveshave been made for several yearsusing a choice of materials andmachining conditions that guaranteetop quality strength and surface finish.
The various seal types and numerousaccessories make this a highlyversatile valve.

DPX manual butterfly valve
The DPX1 disc stem has a drivingsquare allowing various types ofhandle to be fitted.
The operating device is secured bya screw at the top of the disc.
Two sizes of square cover the entirerange. Two handles of differentlength adapted to the operatingtorque correspond to these squares.
A device with a padlocking facilityis optionally available.

Manual DPX butterfly valve with standard handle
This quarter-turn handle is easy tofit and remove. It is equipped withthree stop devices at the open,closed and 45° intermediatepositions. Pressure must be appliedto release it before turning.
Two symmetrical handles allow allopening configurations.
The standard manual operatingdevice consists of:• a 304 stainless steel handle witha square drive socket• a plastic sleeve which can becustomised with the user's name,• a 304 stainless steel hub,• a stainless steel return spring,• a securing screw.

The butterfly valve can easily beautomated. A vertical cylindricalpneumatic actuator replaces thestandard manual handle. Threesizes of actuator cover the entirerange:
• DN 25 to DN 76(diameter: 89 mm)
• DN 80 to DN 125(diameter: 115 mm)
• DN 150(diameter: 114 mm)
A red plastic locator showing theposition of the valve is insertedbetween the square of the disc andthe end of the actuator shaft. Itindicates the NO (Normally Open)or NC (Normally Closed) positionwhen the air supply to the valve isshut off.
The actuator also has a rising stemto provide remote information onthe position of the valve if it isequipped with a signal-back unit(see signal-back section).
It is designed for single or double-acting operation with filtered airwithin a pressure range of 4 to 8 bar.
Mounting on the valve and puttinginto service:The butterfly valve can quickly beautomated with this actuator. Thescrews securing the half-bodieshold the actuator in place by itsthreaded lugs which ensures goodcentring and disc and drive shaftalignment.
It is equipped as standard withadjustable air fittings for Rilsan 4/6 hoses.
This actuator consists mainly of thefollowing parts:• a 304L stainless steel outer body,• a 304L stainless steel drive shaft,• a plastic helical cam,• a spring with an anti-corrosioncoating,• a cover held by a stainless steelretaining ring.

This valve assembly, only availablein an automatic version, uses acombination of two main butterflyvalves between flanges connectedby a channel forming an air space.This channel is equipped with aleakage microvalve and anoptional air space washingmicrovalve.
Technical specifications are thesame as the base modelspecifications.
When both valves are closed, theventing of the air space reveals afault on either of the valves. Thisguarantees that one circuit doesnot contaminate another.
In order to ensure simultaneousoperation of these valves, apneumatic connection is madebetween these three valves and thesingle control solenoid valve. Anauxiliary solenoid valve may beused if necessary to open one ofthe two butterfly valves duringcleaning in order to wash out theair space.
Components of the double sealingbutterfly valve between flanges:• leakage (and washing) indicator(s),• two DPX valves between flanges,• two actuators.

Advantages of the AS-i network
• Open standard.
• Quick and easy to install andput into operation.
• Quick to wire up due to the useof “vampire” connectors and a non-shielded two-core cable.
• Free topology.
• Several AS-i masters available(PLC couplers or Profibus-DP,Device-Net, Interbus-S,WorldFip, Modbus, Modbus-Plus or othergateways).
• Max. 62 nodes on AS-inetwork distributed over 100 m of cable (300 m with repeaters).
• Cycle time : approx. 5ms for 31 nodes and 10 ms for 62 nodes.
• Transmission error controlmechanisms.
• Extension possibilities.
Remarks regarding the standard signal back equipment
The choice of signal back equipmentdepends on the functions to beperformed.
1 - On request, we can fit Eexmicrocontacts or Namur pneumaticswitches in control units forexplosive environments.
2 - Specific detection devices canbe studied (lantern detection).
3 - The supply of a control unitincludes the entry gland, wiring tothe electric components terminalstrip and the 4/6 or 6/8 (fromDN 80) pneumatic hose from theunit to the actuator.
4 - Standard signal-back equipmentcan also be complemented by thefollowing accessories:
• rapid air release• stainless steel or semi-rigid wiring• stainless steel air connection• etc…
AS-i network
The AS-i network provides areliable, cost-effective valvenetworking solution.
An AS-i module installed in each ofthe signal back units allows thecontrol of all pneumatic functions
on DEFINOX valves (valve openingand closing, stroke of the plugs…)and read the information sent bythe opening and closing sensors,via the AS-i network.
