Two students from Sacred Heart Primary School were awarded the Prime Ministers NAIDOC Medal after winning different categories in a NAIDOC Week national competi-tion.
Celeste Droop (12) won for her poem about NAIDOC Week and Ma-tilda Jaques (6) was given her award for excellent colouring in.
Only 20 winners are chosen from each state, with entrants writing po-ems, drawing or writing
essays in the various age categories.
As well as their med-als Celeste and Matilda also received a message from the Prime Minister Julia Gillard which said “thankyou for making NAIDOC Week 2012 such a special time for our nation.”
“The wonderful work of this year’s prize win-ners gives me great con-fidence for the future and our ability to forge a more united, harmoni-ous and respectful future together,” Ms Gillard wrote.

Music greats of the past gathered to per-form their well-known hits under the pretence of Yarrawonga College P-12’s JadeRock 2012.
Parents, teachers, friends and family gathered on December 12 to see the musical genius of Kiss, Queen, Abba, Travolta and Newton-John and even Rick Springfield rein-carnated through the harmonic voices and original dance moves of students from prep to grade six.
Music teacher Daine Runnalls put the kids through their paces and along with the band had the crowd clapping and singing along.
Frank Keenan also made a surprise return appearance to the stage,
leading a group of stu-dents in few bush bal-lads before they took to the dance floor for the ‘heel ‘n toe’ and the Pride of Erin.
The concert culmi-nated in a special per-formance of Gangnam Style from the graduat-ing class of 2012 which had the crowd on their feet and cheering for more.
