God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PROGRAMS CHAIR
Brothers,
Year 2017 has come and gone with a blink of an eye. We have gone through a year with little to none fund
raising events that left ours coffers to a minimum. We need to come up with more ideas in fund raising
events, such as Horseshoe tournaments, Chili cookoffs, Applebee’s breakfast, etc.
If you have any ideas, please present them during any Council meeting. Thanks to Brother Jay for the
calendar of upcoming events that posted on the wall next to the bar. If your idea is approved by the council
members and voted upon, it will be placed on the calendar. So, research your specific event, estimate to
amount of funds need, when-what -where, and chair that event. Keep in mind there will be brothers to assist
you in your event.
For those that participated in this year’s Christmas party, a BIG THANK YOU. For those of you who missed
it, an excellent meal prepared by Brother Ron Manna and his executive chefs. The Catholic Daughters of the
Americas decorated the hall beautifully with that special touch. Santa was there for gifts and awards for
raffle prizes. Brother Jesse Navarrete was our DJ.
Coats for Kids was not a very good year for the children of Hesperia and the District. Our funds were very
scarce that I didn’t want to request funds to purchase several cases of coats. So hopefully this up-coming
year will be prosperous enough to purchase some cases of coats for the children of our city and District.

Knights of Columbus Council #4228

THIS IS AN ARTICLE FROM LAST MONTH THAT THE EDITOR FOUND WORTH REPEATING…..
HOW COMMITTED ARE YOU TO BEING A KNIGHT? In the coming weeks, and likely to become standard procedure, new initiatives will be tested for
Fund Raising. As you were instructed, fund raising is a crucial component of the Knights of
Columbus and particularly at the Council level. The fruit of the fund raiser is what makes the
difference between a successful Council and a mediocre Council. Fund raising is core to our
commitment to Charity. But to reach even a mediocre level of Charitable success, member
commitment is the key to any success. Add to that, there is a need to know before engaging in a fund
raiser that there is dependable level of member commitment that justifies putting start-up funds into
action.
So, how committed are you as a Knight of Columbus? Will you be one who can be counted on for an
hour, two hours or more of your time. For years, the same faces are the backbone of success in our
fund raisers, recruitment drives and just about anything that is done that requires manpower. These
Brothers are getting older and tired. Bulletins and messages asking for volunteers hasn’t had any
affect – so an alternative approach will be enacted. Chairmen of the Fund Raisers, recruitment drives,
and other tasks will be contacting Brothers to fill slots needed to share the load and bring success to
our agenda and likely a stronger bond between our fraternal Brothers. It is likely your actual
commitment of time will seldom be more than an hour or two and not all that frequent. So, how
committed are you?
