CETListakingaleadershiproleinpromotingandenhancingteachingandlearningacrosscampusthroughthefollowingtwocampus-wideinitiatives:

1. Provost’sEvidenceofTeachingEffectivenessInitiative.Thisinitiativewascreatedtoexploreandexaminebestresearch-basedpracticesfortheevaluationofteaching(formativeandsummative).Formativeevaluationprovidesinformationforongoinggrowthandimprovementforfaculty.Summativedatacanbeusedfordecision-makingpurposessuchastenureandpromotion,reappointment,andotherpersonneldecisions.Thegoalsofthislongtermprojectareto:

• TaskForce1–Redesign“CourseEvaluation”Developrecommendationsfortheuseofmultiplemeasuresandtriangulationofotherevidencetoteachingeffectivenessforformativeandsummativeevaluation.

• TaskForce2–DesignOtherMeasurementsforTeachingEffectivenessDeveloprecommendationsfortheuseofmultiplemeasuresandtriangluationofotherevidencetoteachingeffectivenessforformativeandsummativeevaluation.

TheProvostrequestedthatwebeginbyrevisitingthe“courseevaluations”(TaskForce1)andthenwhenthisiswellunderway,wewilladdthesecondtaskforcetoexplorethetriangulationofevidencebyincludingadditionaltypesofevidenceofteachingeffectiveness.ThisfallwillbethesecondyearofTaskForce1.Thisteamiscomprisedof:• JudithAbleser–Director,CETL• FeliciaChong–CAS,Writingand

UniversalDesignforLearningInitiative.Thisisthesecondyearofourcampus-wideInitiativetopromoteUniversalDesignforLearning.UniversalDesignofLearning(UDL)isanoverarchingpracticetoreducebarriersandincreaseaccessibilitytoincreasethesuccessofalllearners.WiththefocusofOU’sstrategicplanonstudentsuccessandacommitmenttodiversityoflearningoncampus,theUDLInitiativeexploreshowourcampuscouldembraceandimplementUDLatOakland.Theteamiscomprisedof:

3. GatewaystoCompletionProject(G2C).OaklandUniversityenteredintoathree-yearinitiativecalledGatewaystoCompletion.Theprojectwilllastthroughthe2018-19academicyear.Thefirstyearoftheeffortisfocusedonhelpingfacultyandstaffgatherandanalyzeevidencetocreatecoursetransformationplans.Theredesignedcourseswillbetaughtandrefinedinthesecondandthirdyearsoftheproject.TwocourseswereselectedfortheG2CprojectbasedonopportunitiestoincreasestudentsuccessandreducehighDFWIratesintheseintroductory,foundationcourses.ThesecoursesincludeBiology110:IntroductoryBiologyandMath111:IntroductoryCalculus.TheleadfacultywhoareworkingtoredesignthesecoursesincludeSarahHoschandJonathanYatesfromBiologyandLazloLiptak,KevinAndrewsandAnnaSpagnuolafromtheMathdepartment.TheSteeringCommitteeincludesadditionalstafftooffersupport.Thisfirstyearinvolvedcollectingandenteringpredictiveanalyticstodeterminetheneeds.Facultywereinvitedtoparticipateinlocal,regionalandnationaltrainingopportunitiesincludingwebinarsandconferenceshostedthoughtheGardnerInstitute.Duringthesummer,theBiologyfacultywillbeworkingonredesigningthecourseandimplementingthechangesinthefallandwinter.TheMathteamwillmeetduringthefall2017toredesigntheircourseandimplementthechangesinthewinter.
