Castelli Hotel received the international Sustainability Award by TUI Group, TUI UK & Ireland and TUI Nordic within the
prestigious ceremony of the annual TUI Northern Region Awards and the World Travel Market 2018 in London.
Castelli was the proud Overall Winner of this unique annual recognition for 2018, awardwd by the largest tour operator, making
this honour an immense milestone for Zakynthos Island and the Greek Hospitality Sector!
The competition was huge, among the hundreds of hotels that accommodate tourists from TUI UK, TUI Ireland or TUI
Scandinavia, within the areas of South Europe, North Africa, Spain, the Balkans, Turkey: the one and only Sustainability

Our A La carte restaurant Eucalyptos received an important recognition , as it was
awarded “Best European Hotel - Restaurant 2018” within the works of the 16th
CEUCO (European Congress of Gastronomy and Wine Unions ) annual conference, on
October 20th 2018, in Athens.
This award honours the island of Zakynthos and our destination’s.
The award itself was received by the creators of our concept restaurant, Maria Lougari
and Antonis Nikoloudakis, in a prestigious ceremony that took place at Zappion Megaro.
The conference was organized
by the Athens Chef’s Union Acropolis,
honouring the city of Athens.
The Minister of Tourism, Mrs Helena Kountoura, “opened”
the ceremony of the 16th European Congress of
Gastronomy and Wine Unions, CEUCO, and received 2
awards for her personal attributes into promoting the
Greelk Tourism and gastronomy in Europe.

Castelli's Environmental Policy consists of the following principles and intentions.
Principles • We are committed to minimizing the impact of our operations on the environment, with the help of a pollution prevention program.
• We are committed to complying with all relevant environmental laws and regulations and all other requirements to which the hotel subscribes.
• We are committed to protecting the environment by continually improving our environmental performance. All our operations take into account the results that our activities have in the environment.
Intentions• Understand the environmental elements associated with our activities.
• Minimize the amount of waste we manage with a view to reuse or recycle as much as is economically feasible and to ensure that the remaining quantity is properly managed.
• Minimize energy and water use by controlling and increasing usage efficiency and purchasing environmentally friendly products while maintaining the highest standards of comfort, quality and service to the guests.
• Ensure that all employees are aware of their responsibilities for policy compliance.
• Establish and revise environmental goals and targets and implement an action plan to reduce waste, conserve energy and resources, and assess the environmental assessment of raw materials and products. The hotel unit will have the necessary resources to achieve these goals, using the best available practices, which do not entail excessive costs.

We strongly care about the environment and our practices verify our commitment to a constant and sustainable growth. May we share with you a part of our “green” policies:
Our hotel itself has been designed in an angle shape, to protect a fantastic eucalyptus tree that came to this field before we did!
We recycle paper, glass, aluminium & plastic packaging, batteries, electric & electronic devices, cooking oil………..
All our guestrooms have a sensor for blocking the a/c unit when balcony doors open, so no energy is being lost.
All our appliances are maintained regularly, so no energy is wasted.
At breakfast buffet, we serve our home made cake made with our own production’s organically grown ingredients. Also, we try to eliminate all individual units and use containers, dispensers and pourers to serve most of the goods, so as to save on packaging & energy.
What could you do for the environment
Dearest guests, there are very simple steps we can all make, on a daily basis, to make life greener, literally better, and at the same time protect the environment ( and in the long run, our pockets too!) Here are some ideas we may kindly suggest:During your holidaysWe recycle the most we can! You could do your part too, by recycling soda cans, glass bottles, packaging materials using the indicated bin on your balcony or at the front of the hotel; there is also a batteries’ recycling bin available at the reception area……..Please do not leave water running when brushing your teeth or shaving.Please support our linen & towels changing policy………
Please use your a/c unit reasonably by gradually lowering the temperature 2-3 degrees from outside temperature.Please report to the reception any leak you see, that our staff might not have noticed yet.

We own a farm of almost 15000 square meters located just aside the hotel, where we keep a small number of chickens, sheep,
turkeys, pigs and rabbits: all organic waste of vegetable origin is used to feed the domestic animals. The hens’ eggs and the small
production of organically grown vegetables and herbs are consumed in the hotel. We have built a composting unit, to produce
our own fertilizer using the hotel’s materials: all our farm is fertilised using only the compost. (Quantity produced in 2017: approx.
600kg). Our farm tour is one of the highlights of a Castelli holiday: we organise weekly garden field tours to
the hotel’s gardens and farm so the guests may literally get in touch with our nature: visit the botanical garden, pick fruit from the
trees, see what the vegetable’s plants actually look like, (as usually one sees the tomatoes at the grocery’s shelf), see the baby
chickens, find an egg freshly laid by the hen, and then taste it, freshly cooked! In 2018 we held 25 garden tours, enjoyed by
approximately 500 guests! The olive groves that surround the hotel are grown using organic methods 100%, and
the pure extra virgin olive oil produced is used for baking the breakfast homemade marble cake, seasoning, cooking.
In October, weather permitting, we organise olive harvest picking activities with our guests, enhancing the fun and the learning
experience. Zakynthos’ olive oil is exported and is of supreme quality: the guests learn how it’s produced, and taste it. In 2018
we held 3 olive harvest picking activities, joined with enthusiasm by 30 guests.
The «farm to table» food circle acts towards: reducing food waste, supporting local community, local sourcing, enhancing guest’ experience,
engaging with the guests, lowering our footprint.
As from 2017, our A La Carte restaurant “Eucalyptos” has dedicated its menu to old
local recipes, and its wine list to local wineries, supporting utmost the local produce: The
concept is unique for our island, offering a genuine farm to table dining experience. Half
of the pasta offered is produced by a local women’s cooperative, all dairy products are local specialties, vegetables
come from our farm or the local farmers’ market. We won the National Award of Quality and Taste for Eucalyptos Local
Creative Cuisine in 2018 making Zakynthos “heard” for its culinary experience. Castelli guests enjoy privileges using the
restaurant, while the pricelist is maintained low in order to favour locals. Various events are organised to promote the
local cuisine to tour operators, media and travellers: Degustation Nights, Food and Wine pairing menu, intense radio
media advertising campaign, promoting local cuisine to locals and visitors.
With the «farm to table» food circle, we radically reduce the waste, lower the footprint by producing our vegetables, compost, our olive oil, while we introduce
our guests to the island’s produce and rich nature, the quality of local goods, and therefore our visitors respect more the local community, consume local products,
support the local economy, while they have fun and enjoy a great food experience!

Zakynthos is the sunniest spot of the Mediterranean, and is chosen by the endangered Caretta Caretta loggerhead turtles as a nesting
bay. This species is a tourist attraction, also one of the reasons the National Marine Park was established, and certainly important to
protect! On the first chance given, we always inform our guests about Caretta- Caretta sea turtles, the Marine Park of Zakynthos, and
we invite the guests to visit the turtles without disturbing their environment.
Since 1994 we hold a very interesting weekly presentation at the hotel, educating our guests regarding the
Caretta Caretta and the Marine Park; giving a unique local feel, bonded with the nature’s richness! The presentation is
embraced by the hotel’s guests approximately 23 times every summer, with a total number of approximately
450 guests enjoying breathless the presentation.
This awareness presentation is realized with the NGO’s volunteers’ contribution. Facts and figures are presented,
relative regulations explained: where and why beach umbrellas cannot be put on the sand, why speedy motor
boats & motorized water sports are banned from Laganas bay. At the closing of the presentation, the guests have the
opportunity to “adopt” a sea turtle, make a donation and buy relative souvenirs with a true local charity cause.
We promoted the purchases of the NGO souvenirs, by dedicating the NGO a spot at the lobby gift corner.
Further to the annual brochure sponsorship, we periodically donate furniture and infrastructure to the NGO that that protects
the turtles. In 2018 we also sponsored the 1st turtle nest of Marathonisi island, one of the most protected and at the
same time visited by tourists, spots of Zakynthos. We also sponsored the hospitalization of an
injured turtle and its release to the sea, the following summer!! Our guests were overwhelmed
to watch the release event, making unique memories! Castelli guests also enjoyed the other
release and excavations that were organized by the NGO and we happily communicated
within the hotel and on social media.
The support of the NGO that protects the endangered Caretta
Caretta: this initiative protects the NGO, the National Marine Park
of Zakynthos, supports the local community, protects the
environment and the endangered species, while enhances the
guests’ “feel good” and colours their holiday uniquely!

Human rights are fundamental principles and standards that aim to secure dignity, freedom and equality for all people involved in our business.
Human rights underpin everything we do, from the way staff are treated, their working conditions, to how guests are treated, in the supply chain and generally
in the way our business is run.
Our hotel gives equal employment opportunities to everyone and makes no discrimination as per the gender, race, colour, marital status, religious beliefs,
nationality, political beliefs or social origin. This means that the best person for the job is the person who earns that position based on qualifications,
experience and knowledge.
Castelli hotel offers accommodation to employees that their home base is not located in Zakynthos and offers its employees free meals during their shift and
uniforms. We respect the working hours, the staff’s break time and their days off.
All staff are paid fully on a monthly basis, receiving all legal wages and benefits. Being a seasonal business, Castelli offers all additional benefits to its staff.
All our staff are insured at the public welfare system, and additionally through the hotel they have access to free medical services at the local private medical
center.
Moreover our hotel treats fair all suppliers, guests and anyone involved in the operation of the hotel; we strive to make no discrimination towards them at all.
We treat all our guest in the same way and we do not accept any type of direct or indirect discrimination.
Our hotels’ policies, practices and procedures are the same for everyone and do not exclude any particular group of people.
The goods and services our hotel and our staff provide are open to everyone regardless of their race, ethnic group, sex, marital or domestic status, disability,
age (apart from drinking under 18 years old).
Customers are served on a “first come- first served” basis so that everyone is treated fairly.
Our hotel has zero tolerance regarding child abuse of any type; physical, sexual, emotional or child neglect. Our staff, from receptionists to housekeepers, are
trained to look for any unusual behavior and report it immediately to the authorities (Police number 100) or at the SOS line for children 1056.
