Hospitality & Food Technology
Year 8 Technology Mandatory completed their practical task in class last week. Students prepared and presented a Healthy Australian Hamburger which included a minimum of two herbs grown in the school garden. They were very creative with their ideas, preparing and presenting some amazing looking burgers.
Year 11 Hospitality are enjoying being back in the kitchen and completing their practical lessons. This week they prepared a Hearty, potato, bacon and onion soup and practised their precision cut macedoine (5-8mm cubes). Finally their uniforms have arrived and they all now look professional in their full chefs attire.
Year 12 completed their first practical assessment for the unit ‘Prepare and present appetisers and salads’. They served up the following menu to the rest of Year 12 as a special treat: Tapas - Cumin and pumpkin dip with Lavosh Crisps Roasted beetroot dip with Turkish bread wafers A trio of dips Classic Caesar salad Thai beef salad All dishes were a success and the luncheon was enjoyed by all of Year 12 along with their year advisor Ms Porter.

Principal’s News
Thank you to our Year 10 students involved in the vaccination program last week for their politeness and excellent representation of our school to the visiting Health personnel. With the year progressing very quickly the school has been looking forward to the 2021 Year 7 Transition program. Our Transition Adviser, Mrs Gregson, will oversee this schedule and work with the incoming Year 7 Adviser and our LaST, Mrs Porter, to ensure students have a positive experience. Our incoming Year 7 Adviser was only announced today and is Mr Tim Roberts. Information for parents will be provided in the near future. Junior reports are well underway and I would like to remind parents that this semester they will be in a slightly different format than normally provided. Teachers will still provide comments on progress and performance however, no grades will be provided. We will resume the use of the usual format in semester two.
Education Week will be upon us early next term and we are looking forward to celebrating what we do for our students and with our students. The theme this year is “Learning Together” something which we have experienced more throughout the first half of the year than normal.
With school back to normal I would like to remind parents that when dropping off or collecting students that you please do so in Brown’s Avenue only and not in the bus bay. Before and after school the bus bay area is quite busy and we have had a few near misses where students have run out from between and from behind buses.
Congratulations to Natalie Pace on being the winner of last week’s canteen voucher Neryle Smurthwaite

Year 10 Science
This week Ms McCallum’s Year 10 science class took their turn to extract DNA from kiwi fruit. This practical forms part of their current topic, helping the students to understand what DNA looks like.
The students mixed the fruit with detergent and methylated spirits to separate the DNA from the fruit’s cells. They then examined the DNA under a microscope.
