Welcome to the sixth Music@Malling Festival - a festival that brings international artists to historical venues in and around West Malling, Kent. The festival runs from 23rd September through to the 1st October and celebrates an eclectic mix of fabulous music.
The festival kicks off with Classical Kicks at The Farmhouse - with Lizzie Ball - violin and vocals and the outstanding accordionist, Milos Milivojevic.
West Side Story is celebrated in a set given by the Callum Au Big Band - featuring some of Europe’s top jazz musicians. Come and listen to legendary hits from the show together with standards by Duke Ellington, Count Basie and George Gershwin - Bernstein’s inspiration for one of the defining works of the 20th century.
Bach and Mozart are featured composers with performances at West Malling Abbey, St.Mary’s Church, West Malling, All Saint’s Church, Birling and St.Peter and St.Paul’s Church, Trottiscliffe including performances by Chamber Domaine, Sami Junnonen, Richard Harwood, Steven Devine, Matthew Owens and Matthew Truscott.
We continue to commemorate the First World War with a concert at Pilsdon Barn which includes works written during the conflict by Fauré, Bridge and Janacek performed by Chamber Domaine.
The Control Tower in Kings Hill provides the special venue for a recital featuring premieres by leading film composers performed by outstanding cellist, Richard Harwood.
Hundreds of primary school children will be involved in a project based on Prokofiev - Peter and the Wolf. The concerts in St.Mary’s Church, West Malling and Discovery School, King’s Hill are the culmination of a groundbreaking outreach project engaging young people with creativity and performance.
World renowned vocal ensemble - Stile Antico - perform music set to Shakespeare in a fascinating programme that ranges from Byrd through to the music of our time.
Music@Malling welcomes back leading vocalist, Matt Ford for Close to You II - exploring the lush yet intimate sound world of Frank Sinatra. A must for all Sinatra fans in his centenary year and a great finale to our sixth festival!
Music@Malling are very grateful for the help of a wide range of national, regional and local supporters. The festival promises to be a special and memorable series of events in glorious local venues.

The Callum Au Big Band
Stalwarts of Ronnie Scott’s Club in London, The Callum Au Big Band features some of the most outstanding jazz musicians in Europe. Hear them play their unique big band version of Bernstein - West Side Story alongside jazz standards by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Count Basie led by the brilliant young trombonist, Callum Au.
