Review of Previous Thoughts of
Prof.Dr.R.R.Deshpande • There are many ‘Why’ ---
• Why Ayush,CCIM,MUHS – still not using e – Tecnology to keep records of colleges ?
• Why they ask the same Basic Information of colleges & Teachers everytime ?
• Why they like to make wastage of Papers ,Time & Energy --?
• Why they do not sit & talk with different groups of Teachers & discuss seriously in spite of Flying visit -- ? Why they can not make Visit in only college time only -- ?
• So there may be lot of Why -- & Why -- ?
Now -- New ,Bold Thoughts
• And now let us awake for understanding
the concept of Research ----
Research Tragedies --1
• After acquiring grants of crores ---
• 1) CCRAS ( Central council of Research in
Ayurveda & Siddha ) – Which are products
& where they are available ? –
Dr.RRD asked question to the secretary
Ayush around 7 years back at Sukhada
,Pune
Dr.Lavlekar admit the lacunae --
CCRAS
Research Tragedies --2
• 2) Tri skandh kosh of TMV
• 3) Ayursoft software of C – DAC
• Although ,principally they are Good Projects --
Whether post launch survey has made of the
market – How many people are using it on day
today basis & How much is the practical utility of
it ? –
• It is need of time to Publish this data statistically
with details of users --
Why there are Tragedies or
Failures or poor responses ? -1
• 1) Main reason is a Big Gap in between Stake
holders & Field workers –
• 2) Very seldom surveys are made to understand
the opinions or problems in the field –
• Example –In Teaching methodology – It is
taught about LCD presentation & Horizontal
,vertical Teaching – But nobody makes previous
study of how many Ayurvedic colleges have
LCD etc
Why there are Tragedies or
Failures or poor responses ? -2
• 3) Less access with stake holders –
• Why Ayush,CCIM,MUHS – can appoint few
PRO s to access every day mails & answer the
Teacher may be freshly appointed & may be
working at remote village of India ?
• All these institutes should have Call center like
facility 24 x 7 days,to answer questions from
field workers(Teachers,Practioners)
Why there are Tragedies or
Failures or poor responses ? -3
• 4) Fear in the minds of New comers or
Juniors to speak about existing system
• 5) Fear of the common people to comment
against the Traditional set ups –
Why there are Tragedies or
Failures or poor responses ? -4
• 6) Less openness of stalwarts –
Exceptions like R H Singh “ We do not
know methods – let Ayush should teach
us’ or Dr.Baghel ‘Ready to cooperate
ARDB’(Ayurved Research Data Base –
Project)
For success & satisfaction
in any Field
• 1) Aptitude – Natural Talent – Some leave
Biology & some leave Maths at 12th.
• 2) Attitude – Inclination–
• 3) Capabilities – Ability
• 4) Resource – means ( Instruments &
Funds)
Attitude & Aptitude
Attitude + Aptitude = Altitude
Research – What is it ?
• Research is a Aptitude ! (Natural Talent)
• Research is a Attitude ! (Inclination)
• Research is a full time Job & of course
paid Job --
These are Real Research Institutes
These are Real Research
Institutes • 1) Agharkar Institute ,Pune
• 2) National Chemical Laboratory ,Pune
• 3) Indian Institute of Tropical Meterology
• In all above Institutes those people only
join who have Attitude & Aptitude for
Research .They do full time Research
.They are paid for it .
Highly paid post --
• Research Fellows - Junior Scientist -
Senior Scientist -- Project co ordinator --
Principal Investigator (PI)
• All are expected to make Research
activities day in & day out – for which they
are highly paid ( & of course each one has
chosen that as a career)
Then what about Teachers ?
• Most of the Teachers have chosen the Job
or applied for the post of Teachers & not
for the post of Researcher or Scientist –
Am I right or wrong ?
• Researcher also should be born & can not
be made –
• In born qualities are more Important than
acquired by different Trainings --
In Implementation of any project
• Force is useless
• Guidelines & Directives can help if they
allow Spontaneousness
How Research takes place ?--1
• 1) Observational or Experienced based
Curiosity ( Dr.Barde J.K ,senior Teacher &
Physician gave me subject of Amrutadi
Guggul in RA,based on his successful
experiences )
• 2) Need or necessity ( Dr.Bavaskar ,who
found out drug for Scorpion bite &
Dr.Abhay Bang in Gadchiroli)
How Research takes place ?--2
• 3) Accidental ( Penicilin)
• 4) Intuition ( Neuton – Whether he had
decided Aim & Objectives ,Material &
Methods ? --)
Do like Reverse Pharmacology
• Survey of Senior Vaidyas or Doctors
• Find out Obsevational & Experienced
based Curiosity about successful
medicines
• Find out Need or necessity of Medical
Fraternity
Examples of Observational
Curiosity -- 1
• 1) Dr.Barde – Use of Amrutadi Guggul in RA
• 2) Dr.S.Y.Wagh – Effect of Arogyavardhini & Kumari asav in Viral Hepatitis A
• 3) Attitude – Dr.SY.Wagh – Use of Fresh Punarnava Decoction through RT in cerebral oedema due to CCF
Examples of Observational
Curiosity -- 1 • All examples given in this ppt presentation
can be discussed in detail with interested
person by just calling
Prof.Dr.R.R.Deshpande on
• 922 68 10 630
Examples of Observational
Curiosity -- 2
• 4) Need of Clarification – Use of Virechana
in Infective Hepatitis A in first week
• 5) Need of Clarification – Time to give
Virechana medicines – Early in the
morning or at 10.30 AM
Examples of Observational
Curiosity -- 3
• 5) Academic curiosity – Arises while Teaching the Topics -- Taila bindu – Bad prognosis in Terminal stages of HIV or Cancer
• 6) Observational & Academic Curiosity – Use of Satapa Kadha(Decoction) & Krumimudgara rasa – in Amoebiasis to check stool for E.h
Why these Examples ?
• This type of information should be sought
& implemented
as mentioned from the next slide ---
Steps of Implementations --1
• Epidemiological study or survey
• should made from nook & corner of India
by Ayush or CCIM or MUHS
Steps of Implementations --2
• Data base should be made of
• 1)successful medicines or Treatments of successful Ayurvedic Practioners ( Claims of Dr.Ramdas Avad in Panchakarma Book,Successful formulae from Vaidyas like Y.G.Joshi,Nanal,Jamadagni,Gadgil,
Velankar,Pavaskar,Milind Kulkarni etc -- ) – There are many success stories with many vaidyas .
Steps of Implementations --3
• Data base should me made of
Curiosities or practical difficulties of
Ayurvedic Teachers ,Drug manufacturers
or any body concern with Human Health
Note the problems like Ban
Plants(Puskarmul) or unavailable plants
(Dashamul) & alternatives supplied by
shopkeepers -- Identification
Steps of Implementations --4
• Note the simple problems like –
• We used to give lectures on Daily
Regimen --- How far we collect the data
after using Rasanjan or Surma -- ??
Steps of Implementations -- 5
• 1) Apex body of Expert practioners &
Academicians & Educationalist –
should make a check list of possible
research topics .
Steps of Implementations -- 6
• 2) Team of Technical experts like Ethical
committee or experienced & Interested
scientists should prepare ---
The Research Project in detail including
Title,Aim & Objectives ,Material & methods
etc
Steps of Implementations --7
• 3) This ready made check list of Research
Projects will be displayed on web site of
MUHS –
MD students & colleges will select projects
as per their interests & resources available
at their places
Steps of Implementations --8
• 4) MD students will under take that
Research Projects
• 5) PG Teachers will only supervise these
projects
What is Today’s situation ? --1
• 1) Anybody – student or Teacher –
Haphazardly decide any topic – make his
ideas ,imaginations – lot of
objections,critics ,many anti questions
without any solutions – frustrations to
students & Teachers – or False Victory or
false failures
What is Today’s situation ? --2
• 2) Lot of Duplications
• 3) Most of the research projects end at the
level of Thesis – Scarcely any research is
implemented in day today medical practice
What is Today’s situation ? --3
• 4) Any research work should be ‘Practically useful’(Lokabhimukh or Doctorabhimukh)
• 5) Even periodically Research should be made to evaluate the Utility of completed Researches
I am fortunate -- 1
• 1) After my 1st MD in Chikitsa – Amrutadi
Guggul in RA – Ayurved Rasashala
started manufacturing & selling Amrutadi
Guggul
• 2) After my 2nd MD in Kriya – MUHS
Journal added Step Test in the Practical of
Bala Parikshan
I am fortunate -- 2
• 3) After my Integrated Research work with
Sharangdhar & Diabetic Association of
India –
I understand the effect of Tab DBT in DM
& then I am using right now for my father –
I am fortunate -- 3
• Scientific & sincere Activities & clarification
of thoughts in the field of Research was
appreciated by ---
Khadivale Vaidya Sansthan by giving me
M.V Kolhatkar Sanshodhan Puraskar --
Appreciations --
Effect of Improper Implimentation-1
• Confusions in the working methods of IEC
• 1) Role of Ethical committee members is
not crystal clear many times
• 2) As per my personal opinion –
• Subject expert may only comment on
Title,Material & methods
• Statistician may tell correct Test for that
project
Effect of Improper Implimentation-2
• Other members like Advocate ,Society member can only see weather legally or otherwise Research is making any harm to Enviornment or society
• Chairman can only try to coordinate opinions of all members
But what happens in IEC --
• Any body stands up & challenge the Topic
• Other stands up & take objection on
number of volunteers or method
• Everybody has his own idea about the
same Research Project
• Very seldom anybody wants to respect the
view’s of student’s or Guide
Many Thanks for
your valuable Time --1
• My Presentation is not for debate or
challenge to any particular person
• This presentation is Natural Expression
from my Heart –
• This is a matter to be think about –
• This is a matter if agree about ,to be
spread all around
Many Thanks for
your valuable Time --2
• This is a matter for Managerial people ,if
agree about – to put forth at stake holder’s
meeting for consensus
• And this is ,if not acceptable –
Then for Forget & Forgive to
Prof.Dr.R.R.Deshpande
• Thanks & OM Shanti !!!
One last Request --
• Let us make some time to allow me to
read interesting atticles about Dr.Abhay
Bang & Dr.Baviskar ---
• No --- No ,not now --- may be some time in
future --- Thanks !!
