1. Outline This document includes step by step instructions for how to back up data on FANUC 30i A Series.
2. Back-up Data List Back up the files listed below to the server. Refer to Section 3 on how to back up each file.

3. Data Backup Procedure (1) Output NC Parameter
Go to the EDIT key IN state (EDIT mode) in AUTO mode, or the EMG. Stop state before starting
this operation. This chapter explains how to input parameters from the card slot on the controller.
1) Set-up for PARAMETER WRITE-ENABLED (PWE)
Press the EMG. Stop button to turn-off Ready for Operation.
Press the OFS/SET key on the MDI panel several times, and setting screen is displayed. Set “1” at
PARAMETER WRITE.
2) Set-up for Input/Output ports
Press the SYSTEM key on the MDI panel several times, and the NC parameter screen is
displayed. Set “4” for the 00020 I/O CHANNEL to activate input and output for the card slots.
3) Display ALLIO screen
On the NC parameter screen, press the soft key several times, and the soft keys as shown
below are displayed. Press the ALL IO key.
4) Select parameter input/output
Press the PARAMETER key before pressing the OPRT key.

5) Set-up file names for output.
Press the PUNCH key.
6) Output starts.
The file name will automatically be created as an output starts by pressing the EXEC key if a file
name was not specified at F NAME.
NC parameter file name: CNCPARAM.TXT
*From the 31i series, the NC parameters are in one file (regardless of whether the machine
having 2 pathes). Therefore, no separate output is needed for the left and right sides.

(2) Output NC Program (Cutting Program).
Go to the EDIT key IN state (EDIT mode) in AUTO mode, or the EMG. Stop state before starting
this operation.
1) Set-up for input/output ports.
Set-up the input/output ports using the same procedures as (1). Step 1) and 2) on page
3. (The following explanation is based on setting up the port to a card slot “4”.)
2) Display ALLIO screen.
On the NC parameter screen, press the soft key several times, and the soft keys as shown
below are displayed. Press the ALL IO key.
3) Select spindle.
Select one of the spindles to be output by pressing the SELECT LEFT or SELECT RIGHT on the
operational panel.
Select Select Left Right
4) Select parameter input/output.
Press the PROGRAM key then press the OPRT key.
5) Set-up file names for output
Press the PUNCH key
6) Starts output
The file name will automatically be created as an output starts by pressing the EXEC key if a file
name was not specified at F NAME.
(L) NC (cutting) program file name: ALL-PRG.TXT
(R) NC (cutting) program file name: ALL-PRG.P-2

(3) Output offset data of pitch errors (with C-
Axis) For a unit with C-Axis, this work is required.
(Pitch error compensation = BZ sensor compensation data required for C-Axis control)
Use almost the same set-up procedures as with the NC parameters and programs.
To set-up file names for output, press the PITCH ERROR key before pressing the OPRT key.
Then, set-up file names in the same as the NC parameters and programs, and press the EXEC
key.
Pitch error compensation data file name: PITCH.TXT
*As well as the NC parameters, pitch error compensation data are in one file (regardless of
whether the machine having 2 pathes), and no respective output is needed for the left and
right sides.
(4) Output NC Offset and Macro Variation Data.
This procedure is almost the same as with the NC parameter and programs.
To select file names for output, press either the OFFSET or the MACRO key before pressing the
OPRT key.
Then, set-up a file name in the same way as the NC parameters and programs, and press the
EXEC key.

(5) PMC Parameter Press the EMG. Stop button to turn-off the Ready for Operation before starting this operation.
1) Display card RD/WR screen
Press the “Maintenance Control” on the Operate Panel, and press the soft key MAINTENANCE. If
MAINTENANCE key is not displayed, press key or key.

Press the soft key CARD RD/WR.
2) Output starts Press the soft key PARAM. WRITE.
3) Output confirmation
When the PARAM. WRITE key is pressed at the previous step 2), a promting message to start
outputting is displayed. Then press the PARAM. WRITE key again to start outputting.
Output file name will be assigned automatically.
PMC parameter data file name: ALLPRM0.PRM
(If the same file name exsists in the card, the “0” in the file name will be automatically renamed by
changing the number, which ranges up to max.“9”.)

(6) Loader program
1) Display CARD RD/WR screen
Turn-off the EDIT key before starting this operation. Display the CARD RD/WR screen using the
same procedures as 5. PMC Parameter procedure,Step(1) on page 7.
2) Output starts
Press the soft key LOADER WRITE.
3) Output confirmation
When the LOADER WRITE key is pressed at the previous step 2), a message prompting to start
outputting is displayed. Then press the LOADER WRITE key again to start outputting.
Output file name will be assigned automatically.
Loader program data file name: ALLLD0.PRG
(If the same file name exsists in the card, the “0” in the file name will be automatically renamed by
changing the number, which ranges up to max.“9”.)
*With the twin gantry configuration, you must output loader programs from left and right
sides separately by choosing the left or right as follows:
(L) loader program data file name: ALLLDL0.PRG
(R) loader program data file name: ALLLDR0.PRG
(“0” remains unchanged.)
(7) Outputting cycle table
1) Display the CARD RD/WR screen.
Display the CARD RD/WR screen using the same procedures as 5. PMC Parameter
procedure,Step(1) on page 7.
2) Start outputting
Press the soft key CYC. TB WRITE.
If the CYC. TB WRITE key is not displayed, press the key or the key.
Output file name will be assigned automatically.
Cycle table data file name: CYCLETBL.TXT
(If there is a file with the same name in the card, it will be overwritten.)

(8) Set-up FROM Data Back-up
1) Insert a memory card in the card slot at the left of the LCD.
2) Power-on the NC while pressing both soft keys at the rightmost and second from the right.
Press both
3) SYSTEM MONITOR MAIN MENU is displayed.

Move the cursor with the [UP], [DOWN] keys to 6.SYSTEM DATA SAVE, and press the [SELECT]
key.
4) SYSTEM DATA SAVE screen is displayed.

Same as step (3), move the cursor with the [UP], [DOWN] keys to the file to be back-uped, and
press the [SELECT] key. Press the soft key to display the next file among some other files.

When the [SELECT] key is pressed, a confirmation message for data saving is displayed. When you
back up the data, press the [YES] key. (If you press the [NO] key, you can cancel the back up.)

[SELECT][ YES ][ NO ][ UP ][ DOWN ]
Upon terminating normally, the system displays the following message. Press the [SELECT] soft
key.
*** MESSAGE *** FILE SAVE COMPLETE. HIT SELECT KEY. SAVE FILE NAME : ********.***
[SELECT][ YES ][ NO ][ UP ][ DOWN ]
Repeat the above procedures until you finish backing up all of the files you need to save such as
CLB_ and PMC_ files.

5) Finish SYSTEM DATA SAVE (END)
Select END with the [UP], [DOWN] keys and press the [SELECT] key.
You then return to SYSTEM MONITOR MAIN MENU shown at step (3).
6) Finish SYSTEM MONITOR MAIN MENU(END)
Select 1.END with the [UP], [DOWN] keys and press the [SELECT] key.
Press the [YES] key when the message below is displayed.

(9) Set-up SRAM data back-up
1) Same as (1) and (2) on page 10, insert a memory card and power-on the NC while pressing both
soft keys at the rightmost and second from the right.
2) SYSTEM MONITOR MAIN MENU is displayed.

Move the cursor with the [UP], [DOWN] keys to 1.SRAM BACKUP, and press the [SELECT]key. A
confirmation message should be displayed.

When you save the data, press the [YES] key. ( If you press the [ NO ] key, you can cancel the back up.) Upon terminating normally, the system displays the following message. Press the [SELECT] soft key.

Output file name will be assigned automatically..

4) Finish SRAM DATA UTILITY (END)
Select END with the [UP], [ DOWN ] keys and press the [SELECT] key.
The screen then returns to the SYSTEM MONITOR MAIN MENU as shown at step (3).
5) Finish SYSTEM MONITOR MAIN MENU (END)
Select 1.END with the [UP], [DOWN] keys and press the [SELECT] key.
Press the [YES] key when the message below is displayed.
