STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE #1 Elevate our voice as THE legislative advocate for the promotion and protection of the business interests of engineering companies of Indiana.
• Engage member firms and their employees in grassroots efforts. • Provide strong lobby representation. • Offer meaningful legislative candidate campaign support.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE #2 Serve Indiana engineering companies as their primary resource on business practices.
• Strengthen Qualifications Based Selection. • Provide additional targeted education for Firm Principals and Owners. • Establish educational forums for in-house professionals: legal, financial, human resources,
information technology, and business development. • Continue to offer pertinent conferences, seminars and workshops for all members. • Strengthen relationships with key state and local agencies.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE#3 Develop and diversify Leadership opportunities throughout ACEC Indiana.
• Develop future association leaders and create clear pathway to success. • Diversify representation within committees and the Board of Directors. • Implement “best practices” for committees for greater productivity and transparency.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE #4 Enhance relationship-building among members.
• Broaden member interaction and benefits across the state and within all disciplines of profession.
• Attract and engage Young Professionals in meaningful association issues and activities.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE #5 Purposeful Abandonment.
• Use limited resources wisely: volunteer and staff time, as well as money. • Eliminate outdated processes and use readily-available technology to better serve members.
Committee Chair Orientation Responsibilities of the Chair: 1. Always wear your “ACEC Indiana hat” when meeting with clients/ governmental agencies. 2. Attend all meetings
• Start and end on time • Quarterly meetings are suitable, but may depend on your committee • Encourage relevant discussion and also control the conversation • Move members towards participation and decision making • Set expectations and assign action items as necessary
3. Accept and support the committee’s charge
• Stay within ACEC IN strategic plan and key objectives • Elevate our voice as THE legislative advocate for the promotion and protection
of the business interests of engineering companies of Indiana. • Serve Indiana engineering companies as their primary resource on business
practices. • Develop and diversify Leadership opportunities throughout ACEC Indiana. • Enhance relationship-building among members.
4. Plan committee meetings and agenda with ACEC staff
• Agenda-setting meetings prior to liaison committee meetings are essential to certain committees (include ACEC staff in these meetings)
• Include general ACEC Indiana upcoming events (Golf Outing, conferences, etc.) on agenda to encourage participation
• Send reminder one week in advance with agenda, meeting date, time and place 5. Exercise leadership
• Create goals with the committee based upon ACEC Indiana’s mission • Communicate expectations of involvement and action items for all committee
members, not all work is incumbent upon limited ACEC Indiana staff time/ resources 6. Maintain records and relevant information on committee work
• Appoint a secretary to take minutes and get them distributed to committee members in a timely fashion
• Ensure ACEC Indiana staff receives the minutes for posting on Web site ([email protected])
7. Communicate progress with Board liaison and ACEC Indiana staff
• If Board Liaison is not a full committee member, update him/ her prior to the Board Meetings on events/ issues relating to your committee (see Board of Directors sheet to determine if your Board Liaison is a full committee member and upcoming Board Meeting dates.)
9. Evaluate committee efforts and communicate accomplishments
• Evaluations for next year appointments and possible chair recommendations for incoming President to select

2019-20 ACEC Indiana Committees
Committee typically meet 4-6 times a year in central Indiana and offer call-in opportunities for participants across the state.
INTERNAL COMMITTEES Diversity Committee responsible for activities related to M/W/V/DBE programs and the Diversity Networking Fair. Typically meets 4 times a year. Education Committee responsible for two main initiatives: student outreach programs, including the scholarship program, and continuing education/ programming. Typically meets 4-5 times a year. Government Affairs Committee responsible for activities involving the General Assembly and making recommendations for pro-active legislation. Meets once a week on Friday afternoons during the General Assembly session. Meets every Friday during the legislative session. Membership Engagement designed to assist with orientation of new members, serve as ambassadors for events and encourage greater inclusion within committees. Meets 4 times a year. Quality Based Selection Committee (QBS) works to communicate with clients on the benefits of using QBS in procurement of professional services. Meets 4 times a year. Workforce Development works to increase the number of professional engineers, surveyors, design technicians, construction inspectors and others that service the consulting engineering community in Indiana. Meets 5-6 times a year for a commitment of 3 years. AGENCY LIAISON COMMITTEES Environmental Business Committee (liaison with IDEM and plan annual Environmental Business Conference) Meets 4 times a year with the client, agenda-setting meetings precede that. Funding Sources (works with OCRA, USDA/ RD, IFA and IDOE) Meets 4-6 times a year. Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Meets 2-4 times a year. Indianapolis Department of Public Works (IndyDPW) Meets 4-6 times a year.
Vertical Committee (works with Building Commissioner, Indy DCE and addresses issues of mechanical, electrical and structural disciplines) Meets 4 times a year.
Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Meets 6 times a year. TEAM Indiana and CAN-DO are not open to all ACEC Indiana members as they are comprised of INDOT Committee leadership and ACEC leadership.
