A Brief History of Barangay Ambulong
Barangay Ambulong is a former sitio of Barangay Tabangao- Aplaya Batangas, about
eight kilometers south of the town. To reach Barangay Ambulong, have a jeepney ride from
Batangas City going to Tabangao Aplaya and drop to Ambulong – proper just across the river
with a water spillway based from the history of the oldest folk, Ambulong got its name from the
characteristics of the watercourse along the cliff of the hill. During the early times, watercourse
flows continuously throughout the years.
Ambulong became an independent barrio when about seven hundred peoples drafted a
resolution requesting the Municipal council that sitio Ambulong be separated from its mother
barrio in the year 1958. The peoples reason out in their petition and resolution that the source of
income or industry of Tabangao is fishing contrary to Ambulong residence which is purely
farmers. Besides that the barrio officials are not accessible to Ambulong residence because all
council man and barangay captain came from the barrio of Tabangao themselves.
The request was approved by the Municipal council of Batangas and was forwarded the
provincial board for further approval. It was then approved as independent barrio on January 25,
1960 with a registered name Tabangao Ambulong headed by first barrio captain Diego
Macatangay for a year succeeded by the second barrio captain Alfonso M. Soriano.
Mr. Sabino C. Panapanaan became the third barrio captain when in the year 1963 the
incumbent barrio captain Alfonso M. Soriano indorsed the said position to the later for personal
reason. Mr. Panapanaan remains in his post as the Barrio Executive when he was officially
elected during the January 14, 1968 and January 9, 1972-barrio elections.
As the Shell Refinery is the jurisdiction of barrio Ambulong, the 10% share realty tax (as
provided for the Republic Act No. 3590) goes to Barrio ambulong in a big amount approved by
the secretary of finance Hon. Eduardo Z. Romualdez.
From being a former sitio of Tabangao, Ambulong came to be an independent. Barrio
quite progressing step by step.
