    Treatment storyline

    1.  A dark scene, and minimal light hits the buddleia flowers revealing behind them the cocoon moving slightly

and fluidly as the focus on it’s silhouette and vivid movements continues expressing the stress of

    confinement.

    2.  As the camera moves in the cocoon moves rigidly with a clock ticking in the background eventually breaking

down in to a transition as a butterfly emerges gracefully from the cocoon.

    3.  The clocks ticks add emphasis as the Butterfly moves lightly, entering the new space she is yet to discover.

    4.  As she moves she begin to feel the pressure of restriction and desperation for more room, she panics and

    dances to her distressed emotions.

    5.  She begins to feel more restricted and urges for more, in stress moving frantically to the panic she

    experiences.

    6.  Gradually and inevitably she exhausts herself, giving in to the limitations of movement, dying out as the

    clock ticks once again.

    7.  Within time to end the film she falls back into the cocoon and time reverses on her like she never

experienced the transition and for a last time the clock ticks and it takes you back out through the buddleia

    flowers .

    Character breakdown:

The character is a young female, who metaphorically is a Butterfly transitioned from a Cocoon and tested on in a smallaboratory space, inevitably Butterflies cannot survive without the freedom to fly and flutter with the elements of oxygen too,

so emotionally she is distressed, limited and frantic.

    Concept

The concept originates from experimentation, a lead on from word play inspiration based on transition and metamorphous.

The Butterfly originally in this film transitions after being retained in the cocoon and eventually is able to move free morevividly, further on during the film becomes unsettled and distressed due to the realisation that she is not free; she is stil l

rapped in minimal space. The minimal space and confinement for the Butterfly is a realisation that she is in a laboratory and

ested on, she knows this and wants to emerge so she can break free. In desperation she eventually dies out from lack of joy,

exhausting her and returning to the cocoon.

    Mood and tone

The film will be lit effectively to enhance the features of the cocoon in the est scenes, highlighting the silhouette inside the

cocoon in which is the model. During the film the lighting will remain dark and only highlight the model’s silhouette to create

an emotive feeling. The lighting is an effective tool to create the mood and tone of our fashion film focusing on the darkness,

    which surrounds the character.

    Set

The set was very simple, white backdrop and white floor. The set up will initially display a laboratory feel and be very

minimalist at the entrance scenes of the film, however throughout you see flashes of the props to show the laboratory

    concept.

We used three board, painted them white. The boards represent a open box, to represent box or a jar that the butterfly is

rapped inside. There is buddleia, leaves and greenery round the whole inside the edge of the open box.

    Props

The dancer herself has no props in the film unless you count her wings attached to her dress as she interacts with them

    hrough the whole piece.

The props on set are all presented on a wooden table draped with grey fabric looking slightly like cobwebs. The table is

covered in mason jars, filled with things such as; jewellery, makeup , green/yellow/red liquid and injections and other

miscellaneous to convey how the Butterfly is trapped and tested on in the lab.

How did we go about choosing our model?

Firstly we discussed as a group what type of model that we were requiring to fit the criteria to our film. As group decided a

emale model would fit perfectly into the type of film we choose. We actually decided to get in contact with few dancing and

heatre schools as we felt that someone with these set of skills will bring out the emotion in our film. We contacted these

schools via emails and phone calls. We contacted Midkent college, Starquest and many other theatre schools. Some of the

schools got back to us very swiftly and agreed to come down for filming but unfortunately the desired dancer we had choose

backed out at the very last minute. Luckily one of the members of our group got in touch with a dancer that she knew and she

agreed to be our dancer in the film which made us happy to find someone at such last minute.

    Styling

When we was looking at clothing for the shoot we wanted dress like Yi Quing Yin collections

but we knew we defiantly did not have the budget to buy one let alone higher one for the

shoot. Than we got talking to students about collaborating for the film but they had nothing

we really wanted. Than we walked round other courses to see if we could collaborate with any

other courses. We than stumbled against this pale blue dress with different pastel colours. It

was very similar to a Yi Quing Yin dress. We than found out it was ex students from Extended

diploma and 2 members of the group knew the girl. We than went away and contacted the

designer Amy Hartland who said she would be honoured for her dress to be featured in our

fashion film. We promised we would credit her and give her copy of the film after to use for

her portfolio if she wanted to.

    Dress

The dress by Amy Hartland designed was inspired by butterflies and also nature. We did not know this before we chose it. We

later found this out by talking to the designer about her inspirations for making the garment. The

netting on the back of the dress was perfect for the styling of the shoot. As we wanted the

dancer to have wings as she was butterfly and wanted her to interact with the wings in the film.

Nothing on the feet so that the model is free to dance emotively and quickly according the to the

    character’s distress throughout the film.

    Make-up and Hair

The makeup on the model will be very minimal part from the eyes which will be very smoky and

gradually get darker through the film, also her lips will become darker. The skin will be very dewy

and fresh almost looking wet. Natural eyes and lips including the eyebrows too. Messy tousled

    hair.

How we going to approach/ go about filming?

We have all got our own roles for filming day to make our day run smoothly. Also we want it to be as professional as it can be

as we have people coming in from outside the university. We have one member of our group be stylist all day so can watch if

he clothing needs to be tweaked or makeup/hair need to be touched up by MUA. The other two members of the group will

be working on the recording and taking down notes while going along.

    Equipment for filming

    1x camera

    2x lenses

Lense 1 = for opening/end sequence (going through flowers)

Lense 2 = for rest of film

    2 x lights on stands

    Post-production

We We knew as group that we wanted to create something dark in terms of post-

production; especially with speed and timing. We looked through our footage to

see the best bits that we had shot and using Adobe Premiere, we could piece the

footage in, making sure that it was the best pieces of footage that we had selected,

we put them together into order. We tried to follow our storyboard, making sure

that the film had a sort of story behind it which made sure that the film made

sense. We saw a clip from ‘Gone Girl’ which had flicking pieces of film and blank

black screens every few seconds, this built suspense in a scary way so we decided

to use that in the editing, which was difficult as the clips had to be cut andseparated every few seconds, but the end result is very chilling. The creating of the

titles was difficult as we could not figure out how to put them on, but after a bit of

help we figured it out and were able to put text in. In terms of sound, we had found the clock was key component to our film

so we had to include the ticking which worked really well, especially with the black screen flashing. The music was creepy

which met the right places in terms of movement, so it seemed more powerful. In creating the different movements with the

clips, it was quite fun to move bits around, making things get really slow and then speed up and to play around with repeating

hings gave the film an effect that we are proud of. If we had had longer on the post production we could have played around

more with the effects that are able to be used on Premiere, but we are happy as a group with the end result.

    Music

The music and sounds we used for our film. We sourced it of YouTube as we decided if we do publish it online, we will take

he backing noise of the film so we can have our film on the web. When getting the sounds for backing the film we had two

main sounds we was after for the film. The first one was the sound of ticking clock to go with the clock equalling the

ransitions. We put into the search bar "grandfather clock". The second sound we was after was in the style of horror film with

creepy and scary sounds. We searched "dark suspense music". We than found the perfect music to go along side our film we

played it alongside the film and it was the right length as well. We tried out lots of different music and clock sounds before

selected the two to go together,
