1 Introduction

1.1 IntendedUseoftheDoseAwareSystemTheDoseAwareSystemisanelectronicX‐raydosemonitoringsystem.Theintendeduseistoimprovetheawarenessofpeople,whoworkwithorareinthepresenceofX‐Rayimagingequipment,abouttheiroccupationaldose(alsoknownasstaffdose).Theawarenessfocuseson:

• agraphicalvisualizationofthereal‐timestaffdoseratewhileworkingwithX‐Rayequipmentinexaminationroomsduringmedicalprocedures;

• instantaccesstohistoricalstaffdoseforreportingandanalysispurposes.

ThebenefitsoftheDoseAwareSystemareto:

• makepeopleawareoftheirreceivedstaffdoseduringclinicalworkwithX‐rayimagingequipment;

• instantlyvisualizetheresultofreducingmeasuresofoccupationaldoseby,forexample,changingaperson’spositionintheexaminationroom.

TheDoseAwareSystemmaynotbeusedasalegalstaffdoserecordingsolution.TheDoseAwareSystemisnotintendedforpatientuse.

NOTE:DonotexposethePDMsindirectX‐raybeam.Theyaredesignedtobeexposedtoscatteredradiationonly.

NOTE:TheDoseManager,DoseView,CradleandPDMRackarenotintendedtobeusedinsideexaminationrooms.

NOTE:TheDoseAwareproductisnotareplacementforaTLD(ThermoLuminescentDosimeter)orsimilarproduct.

ThecomponentsoftheBaseStationPackageareintendedtobeusedincombinationwithanumberofPDMs.Inthisconfiguration,theBaseStationPackageisdesignedasamonitoringaidforhospitalstaff.

2 BaseStationPackageInstallationTheBaseStationPackageisinstalledandconfiguredbyaPhilipsserviceengineerandalocalapplicationspecialistaspartofdeliveryandhand‐over.Duringitsuseorduetochangesintheplaceofinstallation,modificationtotheBaseStationPackageoritsconfigurationmaybenecessary.AtrainedPhilipsserviceengineerwillcarrythisout.NOTE:Installationofthird‐partysoftwareintheBaseStationisprohibited.InstallationofsuchsoftwaremaycausetheBaseStationtomalfunction.

3.1 IntroductionTheBaseStationisthedisplayunitfortheDoseAwareSystem.ItcommunicateswirelesswithPDMswithinradiorangeinordertocollect,presentandstorePDMdosedata.

3.2 GettingStarted

3.2.1 WallMountedBaseStation1. ConnecttheoutputconnectoroftheAC‐

DCadaptortothebackoftheBaseStation,ifneeded.2. ConnecttheinputconnectortoanACelectricaloutletsocket.Thiswillswitch

ontheBaseStation.APhilipsstartupscreenwillbedisplayedforafewseconds.TheOnlineViewwillbedisplayedandwithin30secondsamaximumof8PDMs(atatime)withinrangeoftheBaseStationwillappear.NOTE:TheBaseStationscreenisatouchscreen.OperatetheBaseStationbytappingbuttonsandgraphsonthescreen.

WARNING:DonotcovertheBaseStationtopreventexcessivetemperatures.

WARNING:BecarefulwhenmovingotherequipmentinthevicinityoftheBaseStation.

3.2.2 MCSMountedBaseStation1. SwitchontheX‐raysystemandtheBaseStationwillautomaticallyswitchon.

APhilipsstartupscreenwillbedisplayedforafewseconds.TheOnlineViewwillbedisplayedandwithin30secondsamaximumof8PDMs(atatime)withinrangeoftheBaseStationwillappear.NOTE:TheBaseStationscreenisatouchscreen.OperatetheBaseStationbytappingbuttonsandgraphsonthescreen.

WARNING:DonotcovertheBaseStationtopreventexcessivetemperatures.

TheOnlineViewdisplaysthecurrentpersonaldoseratesandpeakdoserateindicators,forupto8PDMswithinrangeoftheBaseStation.

TheiconintheupperrightcornergivesyouaccesstotheBaseStationsettingsview(seechapter3.3.3).

TheDisplayedNamebuttonidentifiesthePDMs.BytappingtheDisplayedNamebuttonofaPDM,youwillentertheWalk‐UpViewofthatPDM.

Thedoseratescaleisdividedinthreezones:

• Greenzoneindicatesgoodworkinghabits.Properactionshavebeentakentoavoidexposureforunnecessaryradiation.

• Yellowzoneindicateshigherdoses,whichcanbeacceptableforshorterperiodsoftime,forexampleifyouneedtostandclosertothepatientduringaprocedure.Ifyouareexposedtoradiationintheyellowzonefrequently,youneedtotakeactionstominimizethedoseexposure.

• Redzonedoseindicationsshouldnotoccurduringnormalprocedures.Ifyouareexposedtoradiationintheredzone,youneedtotakeactionstominimizethedoseexposure.

WhenaPDMmovesoutofrangeoftheBaseStation,itsbuttonwillremainvisibleintheOnlineViewfortwominutes.Thebuttonwillthenremaingrayedoutforanothereightminutesbeforeitdisappears.Thisfeatureallowspeopletotemporarilyleavetheroomwithoutloosingtheirpositioninthelist.Whenabuttonisgrayedout,itisnotpossibletoaccesstheWalk‐UpView.

IfnoPDMhasbeenwithinrangeoftheBaseStationfor30minutes,theOnlineViewwillenterscreensavermode.InscreensavermodetheBaseStationdisplaysablackscreen.TheBaseStationscreenstartsupwhenaPDMconnectstotheBaseStationorwhentheusertapsthescreen.

• FortheDay/Weektimespans:viewaccumulateddosevaluebars.Eachbarrepresentstheaccumulateddoseduringone/fourhours,respectively.WithintheDayandWeektimespans,tappingadosebarinthediagramwillzoomintothelargerunderlyingtimescale(thatisWeek‐>DayandDay‐>Hour).

Withineachtimespan(Hour/Day/Week)youcanstepforwardandbackwardintimewiththearrowbuttonsonthebottomofthescreen.Bypressingandholdingthearrowbuttonsyouwillscrollalongthetimeaxiswithinthechosenzoomlevel.

FollowthestepsbelowtogetstartedwithDoseView:1. StarttheDoseViewapplication.2. ConnectaCradletoyourcomputer’sUSBport.3. PutaPDMintheCradle.Withinafewseconds,DoseViewwilldetectthePDM.

ThisisindicatedatthetopoftheDoseViewwindowbyanote“ConnectedtoPDM100001158”,wherePDM100001158isanexampleofaPDMID.DoseViewwillstartloadingthePDMdosehistory.Thismaytakeuptoafewminutes.YoucanfollowtheprogressontheprogressbaratthebottomoftheDoseViewwindow.

4.2.1 TroubleshootingIfthePDMdoesnotappear:

• CheckthatthePDMiscorrectlyfittedintotheCradle.IftheCradleisnotdetected:

• ChecktheUSBconnectionbetweentheCradleandthecomputer.• InstalltheCradledrivermanually.Allthedriverfilesarelocatedonthe

OtherelectronicproductsexceedingthelimitsdefinedinsuchEMCstandardscould,underunusualcircumstances,affecttheoperationoftheproduct.

MedicalelectricalproductsneedsspecialprecautionsregardingEMC,andneedstobeinstalledandputintoserviceaccordingtoEMCinformationprovidedintheaccompanyingdocuments.

Theuseofaccessoriesandcablesotherthanthosespecified,mayresultinincreasedemissionordecreasedimmunitylevels.

Theproductshouldnotbeusedadjacenttoorstackedwithotherproductsandthatifadjacentorstackeduseisnecessary,itshouldbeobservedtoverifynormaloperation.
