Cover Letter

• A tool used to outline specific job qualifications that are not listed in your résumé

• May also be used to draw attention to a skill that you have in abundance which you feel is applicable to the job

• This letter accompanies a résumé and is used as an introduction from yourself to the potential employer

Jobs That Require It…

• You do not HAVE TO supply a cover letter for a job unless stated in the ad. You should consider whether it might be appropriate though.

• Because the letter is used to highlight skills that you have, you would use a letter in any situation where you feel it is necessary to elaborate your qualities.

• More common with advanced employment opportunities.

Please disregard the attached résumé -- it is terribly out of date.

• You should also

include that your

résumé is attached

I wonder what qualifications you need for this job.
