A PARKWOOD DOOR BECOMES PART OF YOUR HISTORY.

The first ‘doors’ were likely simple animal skins draped across the entrance to a cave or hut, until the agricultural revolution brought about permanent settlements — and permanent homes. The earliest doors in records are represented in the paintings of Egyptian tombs, where they are shown as single or double doors, each made from a single piece of wood.

It’s a passion that goes right back to our beginning, in 1993, when the Founders established a door joinery shop in Wanganui — not just because it was a central location, but because they wanted to have a positive effect on the economic circumstances of our workers and their communities.

According to Pompeiian murals and surviving fragments, contemporary doors looked much like modern wood-panelled doors; they were constructed of stiles (vertical beams) and rails (horizontal beams) framed together to support panels — occasionally equipped with locks and hinges. This Roman type of door was also adopted in Islamic countries.

Much as we may have been delighted by the filmic air locks, sliding panels and interdimensional door-portals from science fiction, door technology has evolved mainly in the materials we use. The basic idea of a door hasn’t changed in over 4,000 years!

Our Thermtek aluminium doors are at the cutting edge of design in thermal and sound protection, whilst our Strata aluminium doors provide strength and stability with a clean-cut, modern look. Our Duramax composite-engineered doors offer similar protection from the elements, and can be shaped, drilled and rebated just like timber!

In future, we will no doubt see all kinds of weird and wonderful inventions that will change our ideas of what a door is, or is not. Until then, Parkwood will continue to combine the best of modern materials and new styles with traditional approaches to craftsmanship and appearance — made operational by everything from barn door tracks, door knobs and handles, to deadlocks and digital entry systems.

THE DOORS OF THE FUTURE.

The ‘Etaf’ door blends science fiction with beautiful design. The automatic entrance has 35 rows of five-centimetre-tall vertical sliding metal bars, split down the middle. Infrared sensors determine a person’s height and width and the bars of the door mimic the silhouette generated, sliding just enough bars aside to allow the individual through. A black door in full sun is perfectly OK for the aluminium range!

Strata doors are not insulated, but offer you strength and stability in clean-cut, modern designs. Thermtek is a thermally enhanced door with improved insulation and sound decreasing qualities.

WELCOME TO THE PARKWOOD DURAMAX COMPOSITES RANGE.Duramax Composite Doors won't rust, rot, twist or dent. You can choose either a high-impact woodgrain or smooth skin, that can be painted or stained any colour with a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of more than 10%.

With a polyurethane-resin-engineered core they offer excellent thermal insulation. Their solid fibreglass edges are clean and tidy, and can be trimmed, drilled and rebated just like a timber door!
