T. installed new walkway with sand and stone which looks terrific! Kevin Carlson designed/printed posters/flyers for M Milcarek’s “Salt Rush” presentation on October 27, 1-4 p.m. T Morris-Kopinski has placed three “did you know” ads and a quarter page ad in the Pennysaver. Kevin will also make ten more of the 2007 then-now DVDs for us.

Research Inquiries Extensive research on the old Brown Knitting Mill buildings on Center Street for nomination to NR completed. The narrative is very detailed, containing the construction dates of the two adjoining buildings. However, SHPO (State Historic Preservation Office) reconsidered its initial determination of eligibility and denied the listing. They had discovered that the first 1908 three-story, wood-frame mill with gambrel roof had been demolished during the 1970’s. With the original building gone, they could not recommend listing the subsequently built brick/terra cotta buildings.

Kennedy Building next to Pennysaver. Discovered a ca 1914 photo which shows the original storefront design; NYMS. T. Dixon : fire :: town hall building :: any festivals :: Gainesville S. Jordan :: 3

rd cousin David Starr Jordan

Loans Loans: aerial view of Marr Colton Organ Factory has not been returned by County Historian. Harvey Granite needs to return abolitionist portraits. They need to be carefully packed so edges are not damaged when being transported. Please always complete loan check-out book before removing anything from the building.

Mary Dries wants to donate her nursing cape – will ask others for donation of caps as do not have any. Andrew Mauer who presently owns the old Ella H. Crossett house asked us to find a photo of the Crossett family in front of a big tree on the home’s yard and some love letters written by one of Crossett’s daughters. This question has also been asked of Mr. Lane as we have no record of the artifacts.

Sue Hengelsberg with the Bicentennial Singers is reviving the play “The Hermit of Hermitage.” She has asked to borrow for performances his bicycle, his desk and other items such as surveyor chain. Motion/second/vote needed.

Glass Plates – Letchworth Park. Ted Bartlett who has researched Park history has inquired a couple of times about the glass plates. Contacted David Lane, former WHS President. He recalls they were taken to Geneseo for scanning etc and believes they may be stored with the other plates. Several searches reveal that they are not in the GH. Discussion to resume.

Not sure if it has stopped the overflow near the new downspout. Water continues to fall, however, onto the front steps from the last repair of the gutter. The top area of the porch has a depression which is catching water. Concrete needs to be applied to level the surface carefully otherwise the winter ice may spread on the porch. Painting Project. Activity Report - August 26, 2010

Bylaws. Section 6 a 7. – Curator’s Duties include: Production of a Curator’s Report for each regular WHS meeting. The Monthly Activity report is prepared by the Curator and contains information with respect to Curator functions as well as other volunteer activities. Pike Fair-Display 2009. Gordon K. removed last year’s fair exhibit (Footsteps of a Centenarian by Jeannette Gebel) which won first place August 2010. The exhibit was re-established at the head of the stairs on the second floor. Pike Fair Display 2010. Andy G. designed and submitted display on Warsaw’s Old Home Week which display won 5th place. Competition high with Castile winning first place. Library Display. Laura Worthington had designed a display (Old Home Week 1910 Celebration) at the Warsaw Public Library. Andy used the theme and some of the materials to complete fair exhibit. Maintenance.

Painting. Carol and Jake W painted south end of the foundation up to the bottom of the windows. Painting. Gordon cleaned and painted floor to match existing tan color. Front door sign. Was cleaned and reinstalled by Gordon K. 2nd

Floor Storage Room Insulation. Gordon K removed shelving from 2nd floor storage and installed rigid insulation board over windows to even out the room temperature, by reducing heat loss from the room.

Shrub trimming. Gordon K. trimmed all shrubs front and back.

Painting. Gordon painted display in the Civil War Room. He also painted 2 walls in the Civil War Room. Gordon also made and put up shelves in the dressing room. Gordon, Carol, George and Trisha moved out all of the clothing from storage in the back upstairs room and put it all in the dressing room. Front Gutter. Andy and his brother Eric Gebel repaired the leak coming from the front gutter over the doorway. Apparently, Goodenow had placed the north end of the gutter over the south end when reinstalling the gutter causing water to back up in the seam resulting in the leak. The two removed the existing solder and a substantial amount of roof cement before polishing the copper or preparing it for soldering. An inappropriate rivet had been installed on the copper at the leak site. The two also cleaned all the other gutters discovering little debris. Water was also running into the cellar at the north end downspout. Andy attempted to repair with additional copper. Apparently, the slope of the gutter is not sufficient to efficiently permit the water to drain the length of the gutter to the north end downspout. The other leak on the other half of the gutter is yet to be completed.

Equipment. Microphones/Karoche Machines. Sue H. has returned all equipment. Trish will inventory and check equipment. HNY Grant.
