Westside PTO Agenda

Westside Elementary PTO MeetingJanuary 10th, 20196:30pm to 7:30pmLMC

Members Present

Mr. Peterson, Mr. Wadel, Becky VanTreek, Jessica Cumber, and Tracey Bast

Welcome

Principals/Teachers Report

Mr. Peterson reported things are going really well at Westside. However, the flu is going around and if your child is sick, please keep them home.

The Great Kindness challenge is coming up at the end of January and February. Students and staff will focus on being kind for the entire month will different activities. Mr. Peterson will reach out to PTO if there is anything they can do to help support this challenge.

Mr. Wadel reported about the 2nd grade EAA field trip, they took before Christmas break. This field trip ties into their force in motion unit and the kids really enjoy traveling to Oshkosh.

Mr. Wadel also reported, the teachers in 2nd grade met today and talked about how to move kids if they are stuck in a reading level. The teachers are all on the same page and have plans in place on how to move students forward if they are stuck. This is something that is really unique to Westside.

Treasurer’s Report

Currently there is $4,596.18 in our checking account.

We will be receiving a check for around $1,300.00 from MyHuterra. We also will be receiving a check from Box Tops for Education for over $1,500.00.

Since the last meeting, there has been numerous checks that have cleared the account, which are indicated in the months statements.

Bingo Night

Jessica, Becky, and Tracey came up with a list of basket ideas for Bingo night. This list will go out to teachers next week, and they will be asked to choose their top five. Tracey will collect these forms from the teachers, and then create and get letters sent home to parents by 2.8.19.

We are doing okay for donations, we are reevaluating the list, and will assess

items we may still need by our next meeting. At which point we will reach out to businesses, and make phone calls if we are in need of more donations.

A sign up genius will be created for volunteers for Bingo night and go out to all the parents who have sent their emails to Tracey.

It was decided to reach out to JD’s for popcorn, and sell snacks and beverages during Bingo night. Although this is different than in the past, we will ensure this is communicated on the flyer. February Dance

We will have an 80’s Neon Dance on February 22nd, from 6p to 8p. A sign up genius will be sent out to parents for volunteers, and a flyer needs to be created. Tracey has reached out and booked the Dj. We will sell candy, snacks, and beverages. We are looking into getting different kinds of glow sticks to sell as well, as the kids enjoyed these at the Halloween dance.

Box Tops

Becky and Jessica will collect all the remaining box tops early next week. We will purchase 5 - $20 Luv 2 Play gift cards, and they will be given to the top three box top collectors, and then two collectors randomly selected. We want to make sure everyone feels included, even if they are only bringing in a few box tops.

The next competition will begin in march and run until after spring break again.

We are looking for new trays for in the teachers classrooms. Tracey is checking out Amazon and The Dollar Store.

Instead of doing bikes this year as an end of the year prize, we decided to do some sort of gift of experience. We are unsure of what that will be at this time, but would like to change it up from previous years.

Breakfast and a Book

March 2nd is National Read Across America Day, and coincidently it is also Dr. Suess’ Birthday, with that being said, we will host a party! More to come on this, but we are looking for guest readers, creating literacy activities for the kids, and reaching out the staff to see if they would be willing to help out.

Similar to sweets with Santa, we will provide a small breakfast (donuts, yogurt, milk, etc.) for families, while they participate in different book and literacy activities.

Again this will be held, Saturday March 2nd, from 9am to 11am.

Eaton’s Pizza Fundraiser

Eaton’s Pizza has reached out to do another fundraiser this spring. However, the committee voted this down at this time. We will push MyHuterra with another contest in the spring. We also have some other fun ideas for the kids to raise money if needed. Comments/Issues/Concerns/Open Discussion

The game cart and games are in the basement, if you are interested in checking them out. Teachers have added some items and the students are really enjoying it.

Tyler (Jessica’s husband) is going to pick up carnival games and fix them up.

Tracey is going to purchase some totes to organize the basement. On Thursday morning at 8:30am, if anyone is interested or can help, Jessica and Tracey are going to go through all of the PTO stuff and get it cleaned up.

We need to put on the MyHuterra flyer, receipts can only be scanned up to 45 days after the date of purchase. Also, remind families that relatives and friends can scan too!

Next MeetingDate: February 12th. Time: 6:30pmWhere: LMC

When to Keep Your Child Home

Children should be kept home from school when they don’t feel well. It is important to get the rest they need to

recover, and to prevent the spread of germs to other children and the staff. If you are unsure of when to keep your

child home, please contact the school nurse or your family medical provider.

The following symptoms may suggest a communicable disease. Children who have the following symptoms should

be kept home from school until a doctor has seen them, they no longer have symptoms indicating a communicable

disease or they have received treatment for at least 24 hours for certain diseases.

SORE THROAT

An oral temperature of 100.4 or higher indicates a fever. If your child has a temp of 100.4 or higher at school he/she will be sent home. Your child will be excluded from school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of a fever reducer (Tylenol or Ibuprofen product).

If a fever is accompanied by a sore throat, stomach ache or head ache it may be strep throat. Strep throat is diagnosed by a throat culture obtained at a medical clinic. If your child is diagnosed with strep throat, your child will be excluded from school for 24 hours after initiation of appropriate antibiotic and fever free without the use of a fever reducer (Tylenol or Ibuprofen product).

If your child has an episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea at school, he/she will be sent home. Anyone with these symptoms will be excluded from school until symptom free for 24 hours.

A cough may be a sign of many different illnesses. If a cough is accompanied by a fever, sore throat, body aches or any other symptoms you should keep your child home. Any cough that lasts for more than several days should be discussed with a doctor.

Rashes and infected sores needed to be diagnosed by a medical provider. Many skin rashes such as impetigo, scabies, chicken pox, Fifth disease or Hand Foot and Mouth disease are very contagious. Students may return to school once the rash has been diagnosed and treated for 24 hours or cleared by a doctor. Open sores from illnesses such as chicken pox and impetigo may need to be covered at school with bandages for several days.

Symptoms that prevent the student from active participation is usual school activities OR student is requiring more care than school that can safely provide.
