Chesterfield FacilityCelebrates 75th BirthdayIn late July, Chesterfield Power Station, a fossil fuel-fired power facility in Chester, Va., celebrated its 75th year of producing safe, reliable power. It entered service near the end of World War II, and was authorized to help the stateside war effort by producing electricity nearly 100 miles inland from major coastal military bases.

The facility long has been a technological and environmental pioneer, but Chesterfield’s employees have been the stars — whether volunteering their time for Meals on Wheels or Habitat for Humanity, or serving children at their local elementary school.

Since 2000, carbon emissions reductions at the plant have accounted for about one-fourth of the state’s carbon emissions decline.

Dominion Energy Passes Milestone in Plan To Add New Renewables to Virginia Grid

With the acquisition of two solar facilities under development in Suffolk, Va., and near Emporia, Va.,Dominion Energy is now one-fifth of the way to meeting its goal of having 3,000 megawatts of solar and wind energy in operation or under development by the end of 2022.

That’s enough electric generating capacity to serve at least 750,000 customers in Virginia when the sun is shining and the wind is blowing.

Your company announced this goal after the passage of the Grid Transformation and Security Act by the General Assembly of Virginia. The legislation noted that adding 5,000 megawatts of such renewable energy in the Commonwealth was in the public interest.

Since that time, Dominion Energy has begun developing, signed offtake contracts for, or filed with the State

Corporation Commission of Virginia for permission to build other solar facilities in the Virginia counties of Gloucester, Greensville, Halifax, Mecklenburg, Surry and Westmoreland. Earlier this

summer, the company began constructing two 6-megawatt wind turbines off the coast of Virginia Beach.

Thanks to legislation passed by the General Assembly of Virginia, your company has begun a pilot program to improve access to broadband in parts of the Commonwealth of Virginia currently unserved by this critical resource. Broadband access promotes economic development, public health, public safety and education in the communities where it is available.

The company has initiated a Request for Information to identify where the needs are and how it can help. This would be as a “middle mile” provider, filling a void that often exists between the largest data connections and homes and businesses. Dominion Energy’s telecommunications network might be able to bridge the gap by making its broadband capacity available to Internet service providers in unserved communities.

To Supporting History, Culture

This summer, Dominion Energy announced that it will contribute $2.5 million to the International African American Museum (IAAM) in Charleston, S.C. The museum is dedicated to presenting unvarnished history and culture, commemorating, and celebrating the role that Africans and their descendants have played in the making of the U.S.

In addition to the $2.5 million donation, Dominion Energy has pledged $25,000 to provide 1,000 charter memberships to the museum for individuals and families served by the Charleston Promise Neighborhood, which provides educational programming to underserved students.
