Miss Marie Bocan will till the vacancy in the in- termediate department of our school caused by Miss O'Connor's absense. County Commissioners A. David- son and J. T. Farris, county survey- or W. Ii. Mann, clerk of court C. C. Beede, and Lee Coleman left Glas- gow Sunday night for St. Paul where they go to visit the land products show. It was through the courtesy of President L. W. Hill that this trip and the entertainment incident to it, is being enjoyed by the party who will spend the week in the Twin City. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Koke and little son left Malta Saturday morning for an extended visit with relatives in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Their first stop will be at Barnesville, Min- nesota, where a brother of Mrs. Koke resides, and then on to Thief River Falls, where Mr. Koke's sister lives. Later, the pleasure trip will be continued to Rice Lake, Wis., to the parental home of Mrs. Koke, at which place the holiday festivities will end. Word has reached Malta from J. D. Larson, cashier of the First National Bank at Ronan, Mont., that Letcher Lemon. an old timer here, and Miss Siddia Frazher of Whitefish, Mont., secured a marriage license at Kalis- pell December 12. It is not learned positively that the nuptial knot has been tied, but this much information has been received with great sur- prise by Mr. Lemon's friends who have regarded him as invulnerable to the encroachments of the little winged god. The senior pupils of the high school gave afarwell party to George An- crews before his departure for Kalis- pell last Friday evening at the home of Miss Vira Martin. Games and music until supper time made the hours pass quickly, merrily, and each boy found the name of the girl he was to escort to supper in the shell of an English walnut. The delicious refreshments were much enjoyed and afterward the entire party accom- panied George to the depot where he boarded No. 3 for Kalispell where he will attend a commercial college. Mrs. Hales and her daughter, Miss Mildred Watson, after spending sev- eral days in our city, will leave soon with Mr. Hales for their ranch home thirty-five mles northeast of Malta. In speaking of the past productive season, Mrs. Hales said they had not attempted any "dry farming" stunts, but were greatly pleased with what their garden produced, raising and maturing nearly every kind of gar- den vegetable. Out of thirty-eight pumpkins that matured, one pump- kin distinguished itself by growing to be five feet in circumference and so heavy that two men failed in lift- ing it. The catalpa trees that Mrs. Hales is experimenting with, grew very rapidly this first season of their transplantation, and met winter con- ditions in proper shape.
