SoE Seminar ReportDemocratisation of Research Methods
Our SoE colleague Tony Smith-Howell led a most thought provoking seminar on 20th January, focused on the extent to which it may be desirable or achievable for research to be perceived as a universally accessible pursuit. Tony asked the group to reflect on definitions of democracy and research participation before going on to highlight the potential challenges that participatory research may
present. Examples of democratic approaches to research were highlighted then Tony asked us to consider the extent to which his doctoral study focused on how
language teachers perceive themselves might be considered democratic.
Facilitated by the Centre for Education and Research Team.
