(Madrid/Spain).

• Number of participants: 40

 high class professionals and decision makers from 13 European countries + Japan;

conservation and conservation science professionals, curators, art transportation services,

employed in museums and other cultural heritage institutions), who were interested in

innovative sensor technologies for the preventive conservation of art works

 companies working in the fields of restoration and conservation as well as companies from

other fields which cooperate with restoration / conservation and are interested in learning

about future business fields

• Atmosphere: very interested and concentrated; open networking atmosphere for sharing

experiences

• Methodology: the training school was a pre-event of the MEMORI final conference (many

participants also joined the conference the following day), presentation of MEMORI

dosimeter technology, interactive group work session along a simulated evaluation of IAQ

MEMORI measurements and a set of questions;

• Duration: 3,5 h including a coffee break.

• Dissemination: MEMORI brochures and MEMORI marketing brochures were distributed

together with information about the MEMORI technology

Karin Drda-Kühn (Association Culture & Work/Germany) gave an introduction to the MEMORI

project and the training school and moderated the session.

Terje Grøntoft introduced the MEMORI technology and presented measurements, guidelines and

mitigation. He focused on the new micro sensor technology for preventive conservation,

advantages and mitigation measures.

Then the workshop participants had the opportunity to get first-hand information on MEMORI

measurements and analysis of three high-class European heritage institutions with the MEMORI

technology: Stephen Hackney / TATE London (United Kingdom), Michal Obarzanowski /

National Museum in Krakow (Poland) and Paul Lankester / English Heritage (United Kingdom)

presented their testing experiences . They talked about the occurrence of damage on different

cultural heritage materials and objects from their painting collections, historic houses and storing

facilities and shared experiences with measurements and results with the MEMORI technology.
