1 Scope
The scope of this Technical Note is to provide an overall description of the current TAP system and potential future expansions, to be made available as background information for interested parties in TAP’s market test procedure launched in July 2019.
2 TAP Pipeline
2.1 System Description
The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is designed to transport natural gas from Greek/Turkish border, via Albania and across the Adriatic Sea, to Italy’s southern Puglia region and further to Western Europe. The initial capacity will be 10 BCMY1; future capacity expansion will be possible up to a maximum 20 BCMY.
The entry point of TAP pipeline will be located near Kipoi (East Macedonia and Thrace re-gion, Greece), where the gas will arrive through TANAP Pipeline, which crosses Turkey. The guaranteed supply pressure at TAP entry point in Kipoi will be 50 barg. The exit point of TAP pipeline will be located near Melendugno in the province of Lecce (Apulia region, Italy), where the pipeline system will be tied in with Snam Rete Gas (SRG) network. The delivery pressure to the SRG network in Italy will be 75 barg.
The project has also incorporated provisions for physical reverse flow.

The main components of the TAP transportation system for the 10 BCMY case are: • Two compressor stations: one in Kipoi, Greece GCS00 and one at the start of the offshore
section close to Fier on the Albanian coast ACS03.• A pigging station in Serres, Greece GCS01.• A metering and pigging station at the border between Greece and Albania on Albanian side
ner Bilisht ACS02.• A Pipeline Receiving Terminal PRT, a combined pressure reduction, metering and pigging
station, located North of Melendugno, Italy.• A 48” onshore pipeline between GCS00 and ACS03.• A 36” offshore/onshore pipeline between ACS03 and PRT.• 31 x 48” onshore block valve stations (BVS) and 2 x 36” onshore landfall valve stations (LVS)
on either side of the Adriatic Sea.• A tie-in point (GTP) in Nea Mesimvria, Greece• Fiber-optic cables running parallel to the entire pipeline system from GCS00 to PRT
TAP tie-in points are the following: • 48” tie-in to TANAP pipeline at the Turkish/Greek border.• 24” tie-in to IGB pipeline in Komotini, Greece, at BVS-04.• 24” tie-in to DESFA Network in Nea Mesimvria, Greece, at GTP-01.• 16” tie-in for future connection in Aspro, Greece, at BVS-18.• 16” tie-in for future connection in Perdikas, Greece, at BVS-21.• 16” tie-in for future connection in Orestida, Greece, at BVS-23• 24” tie-in for future connection in Kuçove, Albania, at BVS-30.• 16” tie-in for future connection in Fier, Albania, at ACS03.• 48” tie-in at the fence of the PRT to SRG Network.

2.2 Pipeline design
Current TAP configuration is optimized to transport 10 BCMY from Turkish/Greek border to Italy. The design pressure of the various sections is the following:

3 Expansion to 20 BCMY
TAP pipeline has been designed to be expanded from 10 to 20 BCMY capacity of gas de-livery from Turkish/Greek border to Italy.
The following modifications are required for the expansion to 20 BCMY: - Additional compressors/coolers/filters/meters in GCS00 - New compressor station to be installed in GCS01 (currently only pigging station) - New compressor station to be installed in ACS02 (currently only pigging and metering station) - Additional compressors/coolers/filters/meters in ACS03 - New filters/heaters/control valves/meters in PRT
No modifications are required to pipeline sections between compressor stations.
3.1 Indicative Expansion steps
A series of main capacity increase steps have been identified, calculating capacity from the Turkish/Greek border to Italy, assuming no deliveries to intermediate tap-off points.
Steps for capacity increase are based following sequence:
1. Maximization of compression power at GCS00 and ACS03 using 15 MW turbocom-pressors.
2. Upgrading of ACS02 into a compressor station using 25 MW turbocompressors andmaximization of compression power at GCS00, ACS02 and ACS03.
3. Setup of GCS01 using 25 MW turbocompressors only after ACS02 is turned into acompressor station.
4. Maximization of compression power at all compressor stations and terminal (15 MWTUCOs @GCS00 and ACS03; 25MW TUCOs @ GCS01 and ACS02).
Table 2 reports required facilities in the stations for each step of the expansion.

These results are preliminary and based on considerations on compression power and pres-sure ratio only. A more detailed analysis including actual compressor maps and gas turbine requirements shall be carried to confirm the conclusions on capacities.
3.2 Indicative Costs
A study from 2013 evaluated costs linked to the expansion steps indicated in Table 2, based on the assumption to implement additional capacity before COD.
Costs are expected to be higher now than what was estimated in the past since the addi-tional facilities required for the expansions would be built after COD while stations are in operations. Table 3 reports a first indicative estimation of the costs. It should be noted that indicated capacities do not consider intermediate interconnection points along the pipeline.

3.3 Indicative Schedule
For an expansion from the current configuration to any of the steps shown above, a minimum implementation period of 3 years shall be considered. In case of pre-order of long lead items (i.e. compressors) implementation period could be reduced to minimum 2 years.
