thingHello!

Get set to be Gung-Ho! by building up your cardio fitness in advance.

The inflatable obstacles are dotted around the 5k course, so make sure you’re comfortable with the distance and still have a bit of breath left for the inflatables!

Pudsey’s got a few simple warm up ideas for you below, and the NHS ‘Couch to 5k’ will get you set up for the run. Check it out here: nhs.uk/livewell

WARM UP

Raise your heart rate by running on the spot and lifting your knees up as high as you can.

Warm up those muscles with a good stretch, before and after any physical exercise.

Pump up those triceps, with as many push upsas you can muster.

If you’re going to be clambering up inflatable stairs, throwing yourself down a five storey high slide and tackling 6.5ft balls, you’ll want to be raising some decent money from it! Encourage friends and family to sponsor you and make your efforts count for thousands of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

We recommend raising your sponsorship money online. An online sponsorship link can be sent out easily to friends and family far and wide through social media. We’ve set up a special event for Gung-Ho! on BT MyDonate’s website from which you can create a fundraising page, or you can also set up a page on any other online giving website. Alternatively, you can print out our sponsorship form here.

Full paying in details can be found at bbc.co.uk/pudsey

Top tips!

Set up a fundraising page

Don’t forget, when you set up your online giving page, to include ‘Gung-Ho! for BBC Children in Need’ in the title.

Don’t forget to encourage your supporters to Gift Aid too - for every £1 donated, BBC Children in Need gets an extra 25p from the government - without costing your supporters a penny! If they’re a UK tax payer they’ll be able to add it and it only takes a few seconds.

Set up a fundraising page at mydonate.bt.comSetting up a BT MyDonate page online is a really simple way to collect and donate your money. They don’t take any commission from the sponsorship you receive, which means 100% of the money goes to BBC Children in Need. What’s more, it can do wonders for the number of donations you receive. Just post, tweet, email and share the page to your heart’s content to spread the word. Head over to mydonate.bt.com to get started.

buzz when there are giant inflatables involved! So build the excitement and let friends and family know in advance that you’re going all Gung-Ho! for BBC Children in Need. That way they’ll have plenty of time to sponsor you, arrange to cheer you on or even sign up too!

Many companies run matching schemes to support staff fundraising, so it’s worth checking in with any businesses you know or work with: it’s an easy way to boost your fundraising total!

Your Gung-Ho! challenge might be your focus for the next few weeks but the fact is some people may simply forget to sponsor you! Byron’s story

Remember Byron from last year’s BBC Children in Need Appeal show? Byron has cerebral palsy which makes it hard for him to control his limbs but thanks to his specialist swimming teacher, Sally-Ann, her guidance is helping him to thrive in the pool. Byron is making fantastic progress and is becoming increasingly independent in the pool thanks to Sally-Ann. Outside of the pool, Byron needs to be supported by a lot of equipment and so being in water once a week is his only time to feel free. Sally-Ann’s role is funded by BBC Children in Need. Money you raise helps fund projects all over the UK, including more than 500 groups and organisations working alongside children and young people with disabilities, like Byron.

provides transport for a 16-year-old boy with Down’s syndrome to have a fun trip to the zoo and meet new friends during the holidays.

pays for a therapy session for a young boy with alcoholic parents, helping him understand their illness and manage his anxieties.

helps support a 17-year-old girl who was dependant on drugs to turn her life around and find a job.

provides a bereavement counselling programme to support a child who has lost their mum or dad.

At any time BBC Children in Need supports over 2,400 projects across the UK. In the last year we helped change the lives of 480,000 disadvantaged children and young people.

“I love swimming, it makes me feel free.”- Byron

Here’s just a taster of what the money you raise could help fund. Thank you.
