The world is increasingly more connected and

interdependent. In today’s global village, we witness national

economies and cultures becoming integrated seamlessly.

To succeed in the new global marketplace, students need

to acquire a cosmopolitan mindset and must be prepared

to meet the challenges of working with people of different

nationalities and expertise.

This requires students like yourselves to cultivate cultural

intelligence and gain the right skills and global exposure

– the new prerequisites for success in the world economy.

At NTU, our mission is to educate students for the borderless

business world. We are earnestly developing more

As you prepare for the new semester, you will be faced

with many choices and decisions – one of which may

include your plans to study abroad. No doubt, you will

have numerous questions. This brochure has been carefully

put together to help clear your queries and plan for your

study abroad experience.

At NTU, we have an international agenda of ensuring that

our students are well prepared for life and careers that will

have an international dimension.

Currently, one in two students, or 50 percent of the

graduating cohort, participate in various overseas

programmes. The Office of Global Education and Mobility

aims to raise this rate to 70 percent, so that more of our

students can gain from a global educational experience

while pursuing their studies in Singapore.

Through initiatives such as GEM Explorer, you will have

the opportunity to take courses in an overseas partner

university for one full semester while exploring a new

country and culture. These initiatives have been designed

to help you develop global perspectives besides broadening

your learning experience. You might even learn a new

language at the end of the semester!

With over 150 partner universities from more than 25

countries in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania to

choose from, a world of adventure awaits.

How does GEM Explorerwork?

GEM Explorer promotes active experiential learning through

semester-long exchanges abroad. If you choose to make

GEM Explorer a part of your university experience, by the

time you graduate, you would have gained exposure to

two or more systems of university education – one at NTU

and another at a leading partner university.

Upon successful completion of your overseas experience,

you will earn academic credits that count towards

graduation. This arrangement helps you meet your NTU

requirements even when you are abroad!

Your GEM Explorer experience will also mean that you will

receive a transcript from your host university and be

awarded a Certificate of Achievement from NTU.

With more than 150 partners in over 25 countries to

choose from, GEM Explorer provides great opportunities

for you to explore diverse cultures, broaden your learning

experience as well as develop a global perspective

academically, culturally and socially.

You will experience life and studies in a foreign country at

a premier partner university in the Americas, Europe,

Oceania or Asia.

With partner universities like Purdue University (USA),

IIT-Bombay (India), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China),

McGill University (Canada), and the Technical University

of Munich (Germany), you will be challenged to be the
