  • 5 Lifting the stand-alone BTSPurpose

Follow these instructions when a stand-alone BTS must be lifted to thedesired installation location.

    Before you start

There are two options as to how to lift a stand-alone BTS:

. A stand-alone BTS can be lifted stacked (max. two modules perplinth) and cabled. See Installing modules on the floor for installationinstructions and Cabling the BTS and Creating Configurations forcabling instructions. When lifting a stacked BTS, the lifting points onthe plinth must be used.

. The plinth can be lifted and mounted first and then each modulelifted separately. When lifting a single module, a lifting bag must beused.

    Warning

The equipment is heavy. Take care when lifting it.

    Caution

The rear stopper is fragile. Do not attempt to lift the plinth using the rearstopper.

    Lifting the stand-alone BTS

  • Caution

The cable support plates on the sides of the module casings are fragile.Do not attempt to lift the module casing using the cable support plates.

    Steps

    1. Attach the lifting eye bolts to the attachment points in the plinth.

Lifting eye bolts (M12) are not included in the delivery. You can orderthe LEKA kit separately from your Nokia supplier.

    2. Attach the hoisting belt or the rope to the lifting eye bolts.

Attach the hoisting belt or rope so that the angle between the belt orrope and the plinth is minimum 60. The distance between the plinthand the belt or rope is minimum 400 mm.

  • 6 Grounding principle of the stand-aloneBTS

    Before you start

A site grounding cable is not included in the delivery. Make sure you havethe necessary grounding cables. Do not chain grounding cables.

    Note

When modules are installed inside a cabinet, no separate earthing(grounding) cable for the modules is required. The cabinet providesadequate earthing (grounding).

    Note

If the base transceiver station (BTS) has more than one plinth, connectthe main earth (ground) to one of the plinths and earth (ground) all themodules to that plinth. Alternatively, earth (ground) the modules to theirown plinths and then connect the plinths to the main earth (ground).

7.1 Anchoring the plinth on the floor

    Purpose

The plinth is mandatory when the modules are not mounted in an optionalcabinet or 19" rack.

    Before you start

. When choosing the location for the plinth, take into consideration therequired maintenance space. See figure Anchoring plinth on basewith maintenance space in the back for details.

. If there are more than five modules in a stack, side access to theback is needed for back maintenance.

See the following figures for clearances and Earthquake Zones 2and 4 mounting holes.

  • 7.2 Installing modules on the floor

    Purpose

The stand-alone BTS (without a cabinet) can be installed on the floor in astack of up to nine modules (maximum height 27U). To meet theearthquake requirement for Zone 4, no more than five modules (maximumheight 15U) can be installed in one stack. More than six modules in a stackmeets the vibrational requirements for earthquake Zone 2.

    Tip

The four module fixing screws between the module core and themodule casing must be tightened to 5 Nm.

    Before you start

    Check that

. the plinth is installed as instructed in the Anchoring the plinth on thefloor section

    . the plinth is grounded.

If you are going to install Flexi Power Module (FPMA), its recommendedposition is at the bottom of the module stack. For more information onFPMA installation, see Installing Flexi Power Module (FPMA).

    Tip

Connect the DC input cable and install the transmission sub-modulebefore the System Module installation.

The recommended module installation order is illustrated in the followingfigure.

  • Steps

    1. Align the holes on the first module bottom with the fixing studson the plinth.

    Tip

Line up the locating marks on the side of the module to help aligning theholes with fixing studs.

    2. Align the module markings and push the module back until itstops.

    3. Attach the module to the plinth with screws.

    4. Connect the module grounding cable between the module frontpanel and the plinth.

See Grounding principle of the stand-alone BTS for moreinformation.

    5. Align the holes on the second module bottom with the fixingstuds on the first module.

    6. Push the module back until it stops.

    7. Attach the modules to each other with screws.

    8. Connect the module grounding cable between the module frontpanel and the plinth.

    9. Repeat the steps for each subsequent module.

    Expected outcome

10.1 Mounting the plinth on a pole

    Purpose

A plinth and pole mounting kit are required for mounting modules on apole. In pole installation, one plinth can have maximum two modulesinstalled. If the configuration has more than two modules, additional plinthsmust be installed. Two plinths can be installed on one pair of mountingbrackets (on opposite sides of the pole). Before you start

Check that the plinth adapter mechanics are installed as instructed in theFixing adapter mechanics to plinth section.

There are three different lengths of bolts available and four places for thebolts in the pole mounting brackets. When attaching the brackets to thepole, use the shortest possible bolts and the holes whose distance is theclosest to the pole diameter. See the following table and figure for moredetails.

  • Steps

    1. Fix the upper pole mounting bracket on the pole and attach themounting screws on the bracket.

Make sure that the mounting screws in the upper pole mountingbracket are on the lower edge of the bracket. Attach the screwsloosely at this point.

    2. Fix one half (the one with threads) of the lower pole mountingbracket on the plinth adapter mechanics with the mountingscrews.

    6. Make sure that the pole mounting brackets are aligned and theplinth is not twisted.

When the plinth is in a correct position, tighten the three screws inthe lower bracket of the adapter mechanics.

    7. If a second plinth is required, install it on the other side of thepole mounting bracket (if there is enough space).

    a. Fix the adapter mechanics on the plinth as described in Step 1above.
