DIY MIRRORED RECTANGULAR WALL AT HARPER’S PRESERVE

Designed By: Sarah Ciesla for HistoryMaker Homes

Supplies:• Pre-Primed 4” MDF (Actually Measures 3 1/2”)• Caulk (I used Alex Plus)• Wood Filler• Mirrors, Custom Cut to Fit

Step by Step:

1. Frame out the wall at each of the corners, floor and ceiling (and cut the curve mentioned above). This creates a molding at the top, bottom and both sides of the wall.

2. Measure and hang all the vertical boards. It is very important to measure each board. Sometimes your wall is not perfectly square. It is easier to cut it 1/8” less or more than to have to recut or caulk the heck out of it! Measure twice, cut once!

Tools:• Chop Saw or Miter Saw• Jigsaw• Measuring Tape• Vacuum• 3M Sanding Sponge• Air Nail Gun with Compressor• Nails• Level

Note:For a nice finished edge at the bottom, remove the existing baseboard on the wall and replace it with the matching MDF. You will likely need to use a jigsaw and cut a slight curve in the MDF to fit it to the adjacent walls’ baseboards.

3. Hang all of the horizontal boards. Make sure you use a level for each one before you nail it in.

4. Fill all the nail holes using caulk. Once dry, sand to a flat edge. Sanding the wood will ensure everything looks seamless once painted. Be sure to wipe down and vacuum up any dust.

5. Then you can paint – we used Sherwin William 7006 Extra White.

6. Measure the areas you want the mirror inserts to be located. Have them custom cut from a glass company.

7. Glue the back of the mirror and hold in place. Attach a strong masking tape over the mirror to hold in place until it dries completely (24 hours).
