DESCRIPTION
The prospectus for Divine Intervention School, Aizawl, Mizoram. Latest edition, 2016.TRANSCRIPT
From the
Principal’s Desk
Divine Intervention School is a co-educational school that caters to students
from nursery up to Class X. It was dedicated on 15 October 2005 at
Luangmual Vengthlang, Aizawl, by C. Rosiama, Senior Executive Secretary of
the Presbyterian Church of India, Mizoram.
One of the determining factors of a good school is its academic culture. It is
the primary source of competition among the top schools, as is shown in the
high importance placed on the board examination results each year. These
results reflect the high motivation of schools to place their students at the top
of the ranking lists, and they also give a good indication of the consistent
academic standards that some schools have been able to achieve. Divine
Intervention School is no exception, and its commitment to high academic
standards is reflected in its good results every year.
However, although Divine Intervention School considers academic
achievement to be very important, it is distinguished from many other schools
by its main objective, which is to create a Christ-centric ministry oriented
education. It tries to inculcate in the students a willingness to fulfill any duty
that they are assigned when serving God and the nation. In order to reinforce
this main objective, Divine Intervention School places great importance on its
chosen theme, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Every student comes to understand and treasure this theme during the course
of their time at the school, so that it remains with them for the rest of their
life.
In establishing a Christ-centric ministry oriented education, all the staff are
expected to set an example in character, behavior and lifestyle to the children.
This helps children become motivated to do great things for God and their
nation. The children receive clear instructions to do the will of God during their
school days through the example demonstrated in the lives and conduct of the
staff. Divine Intervention School is proud to employ faithful and strong
believers who are humble, smart, well-educated and people of integrity.
R. Zochhawna, Principal
R. Zochhawna and his wife B.C. Chami were
missionaries with the Baptist Church of Mizoram for
two decades, serving God in remote corners of
India. After gaining experience of school leadership
in the mission field, they felt called to take early
retirement to begin a dedicated school in Aizawl. It
was commissioned in 2005 along with its parent
organization Divine Intervention Ministry India. It is
a non-denominational organization aimed at
bringing about balanced development in various
aspects of society. Its first project is the school,
which is based on solid principles of faith for the
benefit of children from a variety of backgrounds
and from all corners of Mizoram.
The school is established with a mission to educate
the children to be the next generation of national
leaders, missionaries, church leaders and society
leaders in order to bring about transformation in
the lives of human beings by training and equipping
students with the required knowledge and skills so
that they shall become responsible and useful
citizens of India.

main road as well as limited space for parking. The school
offers a private bus service which makes it easy for students
all over Aizawl to attend as day scholars.
The new building contains a boys’ hostel and a girls’ hostel
and usually welcomes about one hundred hostellers each
year, with about four hundred additional day scholars. The
new classrooms and state-of-the-art Smartclass facilities
enable students to have a more interactive learning
experience.
School
The ever-growing library caters to every academic field of
interest. It consists of more than 3,000 books that are
useful for students of all ages, from those learning to read
for the first time to those preparing for their Class X exams.
The science laboratory is also sufficient for giving students
the necessary practical knowledge and experience of
chemistry, physics and biology.
Divine Intervention School is blessed with extremely talented
faculty teachers who are highly qualified in a range of
academic subjects. This includes occasional sports coaches as
well as a dedicated music teacher who trains the students in
staff notation and tonic sol-fa. The school also employs a
librarian.
The hostel wardens maintain discipline and provide essential
pastoral care. Many of them have either had degrees in
theology or experience in the mission field; they always help
to build a strong spiritual base in the life of the students.
Facilities
The school has a dedicated nurse and a visiting doctor. The
doctor makes occasional visits to give the students a
medical check-up. The nurse is on call at all times of the day
or night. She takes the initiative of taking students to
consult a medical expert when necessary. The school is well-
equipped with suitable first aid supplies and medicine.
Quiz CompetitionThe prestigious annual quiz competition
enriches the students with knowledge that
goes beyond the content of their text books,
preparing them for success in their
competitive exams.
Spelling
CompetitionThe annual spelling competition motivates
students to work hard at developing their
spelling and English language skills in a
fun context.
Art Competition
The art competition has been organized to
encourage all students who possess
special artistic talents. Wonderful works of
art are produced every year.
Singing Competition
The singing competition is always a
dramatic event with new talent being
discovered every year. Commitment to
regular music lessons helps keep the
standard high.
Foundation Week
Foundation week in October celebrates the
anniversary of the school dedication. There are no
classes and it is celebrated in the grandest
possible way. In previous years the main event
has been held in Aizawl’s Vanapa Hall.
Christian Worship
The school seeks to help the students put
Christ at the centre of their lives. Morning
devotion for the whole school takes place on
alternate days of the week. Students always
take an active role, learning important skills in
worship and song leading. Special guests are
also regularly invited.
Mission Trip
Since 2006, a one-week voluntary outreach ministry
during the summer break has been conducted by
Class IX students and members of staff. During the
past few years, students have gone to Thimphu in
Bhutan. It is extremely exciting and a great change
can be witnessed in the lives of students who have
participated.
Sports
Students are encouraged to reach their
full potential in sports. This includes
parades and traditional Mizo dances, in
which the school has developed a very
high reputation. Most sporting events take
place in the shared facilities at
Luangmual, but the school intends to
develop private facilities in the future.

Hostel LifeThere is a boys’ and girls’ hostel within the school,
with a warden for the girls, a warden for the big
boys and a warden for the small boys. Hostellers
are enjoying staying in the brand new facilities as
well as the new dining hall where good quality
healthy food is served every day.
Hostel life involves regular worship throughout the
week, especially on Sundays. There are many
special events that the hostellers look forward to,
such as picnic outings, talent shows, candlelit
dinners and gospel crusades.
At exam time, the wardens always create a positive
working environment to help the students study to
the best of their ability.
Exams and Awards
The school conducts four Unit Examinations during the entire
school session instead of one and two Term Examinations
conducted by other schools. Performances in the Unit Exams are
duly credited to decide the final results. Keeping parents regularly
updated enables them to know the specific areas in which they
can guide and encourage their children.
Students with outstanding performance in academic subjects are
given special scholarships by the school. At the end of the
academic session, prizes are distributed to students who have
made exceptional achievements in different activities. Students
who face particular financial hardship are sometimes offered aid
by the school.
