District Governor’s Message It’s a Great Time to be a Lion, Leo and Lioness! Lions Leadership & Communication Training On February 19, 2020 we trained twenty-three (23) Lions from District 14-K at the Center for Vision Loss. The training focused on the importance of good communication beginning with a State Council Meeting, District Cabinet Meeting, Zone Meetings, and finally Club meetings.
Greetings Lions, Lioness, and Leos, Even though we’re awaiting spring, we realize our Lions year will soon
come to an end and there is still much work to be done. I trust you will make the most of these last couple months to make a real difference in the communities SERVED.
D14K LIONS LEADERSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING – Feb 2020 – Did you miss it?
The training was offered to all Lions, especially current and incoming
President, Secretaries, Treasurers and Zone Chairs. The focus was on how information is funneled through four relationship levels: from PA Council meetings (multiple districts) to District Cabinet meetings (our District14K) to Zone meetings to Club meetings and its members.
Communication is KEY! It filters from the LCI down through these levels. PA State Council Meeting (held quarterly)
o Attended by District Governor and Vice District Governors who are responsible for communicating pertinent information to their membership at the cabinet meetings.
Executive Committee Meeting (held quarterly) o Attended by executive team members including GAT, Zone Chairs, and Immediate Past
District Governor. District Cabinet Meeting (held quarterly)
o Attended by cabinet members, executive committee, program and project committee members, club presidents, secretaries, treasurers, and all regular members.
Zone Meetings – speakers should have a “story to tell”!
o Attended by club presidents, secretaries, treasurers, and all regular members. Club Meetings
o Attended by all club members. Looking Forward 2020-2021 – As VDGE Dan Lombardo & I review district cabinet position vacancies, and identify qualified candidates, we see there are qualified Lions in D14K. I trust you will give careful consideration if asked to serve in a district capacity. There is nothing wrong with offering up your own name if there is an area for which you are passionate.
100% Club President’s Award – Reminder to club presidents to submit your application to DG Don Kaufman.
D14K Convention – 4/25/2020 – reminder to register and attend our upcoming convention! There’s a new format: everyone will have the opportunity to participate in every session. Come out and support DG Don Kaufman for his final soiree!
Yours in Lionism,
Lion Debbie Lillegard

watch for future announcements
On February 3rd representatives from Miller Keystone Blood Center gave an informative
talk on their organization. They support 29 hospitals in our area and need 450 pints every
day to meet their needs. They discussed the many uses for the whole blood, red blood
cells and platelets. They also thanked us for many years of holding blood drives where
they have collected hundreds of pints of blood.
Dear Lions, Lionesses and Leo Club members of District 14-K,
We are looking forward to the 2020 walk for Journey For Sight. The Walk is
Saturday, May 2nd. Location for this year's walk will remain at the Lehigh
Valley Mall. The walk will take place indoors eliminating any concern for
forecast interference. This year we will be supporting Leader Dog for the
Blind and the Pennsylvania Lions Conservation and Eye Research Foundation.
If your club was unable to support the walk last year, we do hope that your
Club will be able to make a donation in 2020. Please encourage your Club to
consider a donation with some walkers. We would like to see a significant
increase from the 33 Walkers that were able to join us in 2019 and look
forward to that increase.
We have set up some dine and donate fundraiser events to spread the word
of our walk and to also raise awareness of the Lions Clubs in our region. If
you have any suggestions or would like to assist in this, we welcome your
support. We have more Outreach fundraisers and they are as follows: We
have McDonald's 14 South Main St. Hellertown on March 24th. We have
feelers out for others. We hope that you will be sharing this information
with your individual clubs and offer as much support as possible. Please be a
proud Lion and wear a club shirt when you attend these fundraisers.
McDonald's doesn't require a flyer please come and bring friends along for
the ride.
Others may require a flyer or you must tell the wait staff that you are
there for the fundraiser in order for credit to be received. We'll update to
your club secretaries when new events are set up.
We all enjoy eating and most of us are fortunate to be able to eat every day.
Get some friends and make it a special occasion. Life should be a special
occasion every day.
Does anyone have connections with the Morning Call or your local
Publications? In order for future walks to be successful please help us
promote or provide us with your contacts for future reference. More
walkers would help raise funds for Lion's Charities and more awareness for
us. Would you please share with us how you promote your individual Club
activities so we may be able to utilize some of those resources that you've
already established with your local providers? We're also, looking for your
personal eye care providers's information.
Included below are website links to Leader Dog and
Pennsylvania Lion's Eye Research brochure.
If anyone would like us to email you this letter with the links please contact
us.

CHARITABLE ENTERPRISES AFFORDABLE HEARING AID PROGRAM
Lions have always done a great job recycling eyeglass lenses and frames. Now, in conjunction with District 14-K Charitable Enterprises and the generous efforts of a local audiologist, Clubs will be collecting and recycling used hearing aids, along with eyeglass frames and lenses. The hearing aids do have a limited salvage value, the proceeds of which can then be applied in the Affordable Hearing Aid Program initiative offered through District 14-K Charitable Enterprises. Please consider creating a Hearing Aid Recycling collection box (see below) and place it at the sites already being used to collect eyeglasses. A separate receptacle will make it easier for your Club to separate the eyeglass items from the hearing aids. We are asking that any hearing aids you collect be separated from the eyeglasses and brought to the District Convention in April, where they will be processed by Charitable Enterprises Hearing Committee members and prepared for salvage conversion. We will not be accepting any single, loose hearing aid batteries. Please recycle them appropriately. We will accept new batteries in unopened, intact packages. Please contact Lion Tom Lindeman ([email protected]) for further information or support.
Thanks for your support in this endeavor!

The International Association of Lions Clubs
LEHIGH & NORTHAMPTON COUNTIES of PENNSYLVANIA “SERVICE IS THE KEY TO THE FUTURE”
District 14-K
We Serve www.lions14k.org
Where there is a Need there is a Lion!
To: All Lions and Lioness Clubs, Lions District 14-K (Northampton and Lehigh counties) will have our 35th annual convention on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26, 2020 at the Holiday Inn & Conference Center, located at Interstate Rt. 78 and Pa. Rt. 100 in Breinigsville. Once again, it will be a large gathering of dedicated Lions, Lionesses and Leos who serve their communities in the Lehigh Valley. There will be seminars of inspiration to serve and displays by local organizations that work with Lions. At the Saturday afternoon luncheon, we will hear an address by International Director Robert Block from Illinois; have the annual honors recognition of Melvin Jones Fellows; see Peace Posters and award the young people who drew them; and have other activities of interest.
The convention will conclude on Sunday morning with a non-denominational worship service and breakfast in which members who have passed away in the year 2019 will be remembered and honored. We express our condolences to the families of the Lions and Lionesses lost. As a part of the convention, everyone attending will receive a booklet outlining all of the programs, which will occur that weekend. To help support the cost of running this convention, there are ads in the booklet, not only from clubs, but also organizations with whom we are associated, and businesses in the communities that we patronize. Enclosed with this letter is a form you are asked to use, on which you may select an ad size of your choice, and on which you will note the message you want to convey. The prices of these ads are affordable – $50.00 for a half page; $100.00 for a full page on the inside, and $25 for a quarter page. The cover pages at $100.00 each are reserved for DG/VDG candidates. There is no extra charge for photos or illustrations that are digitally produced. We ask your kind cooperation in placing as large an ad as you can afford, and submit the copy on the form, with a check made payable to District 14-K Convention and sent to my address, 4000 Fish Hatchery Road, Allentown, PA 18103. It is imperative that this is sent to me as soon as possible, no later than March 6, 2020, so the booklet can be laid out, set up, proof read and printed in time for the convention. Thank you, and best wishes for a Healthy, Prosperous and Peaceful New Year 2020.
Sincerely,
DG Don Kaufman Booklet Chairman
