COUNSELOR CORNER
Hello everyone, I’m Shoes!
This is my first summer working for the Y, but when I was in fifth grade, I got to go to YMCA’s Camp Seymour. Being outside with my friends, doing archery, going on nature walks, canoeing, singing camp songs, and eating as much food as I wanted for a whole week was one of the highlights of my youth. I guess that’s one reason for my decision to pursue a Master’s of Environmental Education, along with my love for cute and mischievous forest critters and magnificent trees. Getting to share those passions with children every day is what keeps me coming back, and I’m so excited to see what new memories we’ll make at camp this summer!
Many of you know that the YMCA has Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards; we call them HEPA for short. These standards help our Y programs teach and practice healthy life practices for your children. What are some of the standards?
• Each day, your child is offered to participate in an outdoor activity or outdoor child directed play.
• All Y sites will only serve sugar free beverages. Water is the beverage of choice.
• We will provide a fruit and/or vegetable each day during meals or snacks.
• We will offer fun, engaging physical activities each day!
Want to learn more? Talk to your site supervisor to learn more about the Y’s HEPA standards.
