A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY

It is with great pleasure I welcome you to the ICSC 2012 Caribbean Conference being held in San

Juan, Puerto Rico.

We come from a fantastic region, unique in the world. We are united by a common history, a vibrant

present and a bright and promising future. From the Gulf of Mexico, through Central America to the

northern area of South America; continuing on our journey, the region is interlaced with heavenly

islands which, like pearls emanating from the sea, make up an extraordinary gem, famous in the

world for its wealth in cultural diversity.

This is Puerto Rico, this is the Caribbean Conference, where there is no other conference like it.

Where we are going to feel at home and have the golden opportunity to meet with industry

professionals of the most important shopping centers in this region, to network, share experiences,

projects and visualize together our future.

We look forward to another successful conference this year with great speakers, informative sessions

and hope that you also take advantage of meeting, networking and doing deals with this years’

exhibitors at the Trade Exhibition.

We are excited that you can join us and hope to meet you during the conference.

economic overview of the caribbean region ballroom bGlobal economic recovery is underway, with momentum gradually spilling over to the Caribbean region. The financial crisis adversely affected the Caribbean economies, leading to declining output through a contraction in tourism, financial and business services and goods exports, and a deterioration in government finances. Now, signs of revival in economic activity in the Caribbean are emerging. Nevertheless, while the recovery continues to move forward, growth globally is moving to a weaker, rather than a stronger performance profile, thereby limiting Caribbean long-term economic prospects.

the caribbean as an Attractive investment destination ballroom b

Several factors and incentives exist in the Caribbean region which makes it an attractive investment location. It has access to the European, U.S. and CARICOM markets. The Caribbean region is a natural commercial partner of Europe, U.S., Canada, Central and South America, linked closely together by geography, history and culture.

The Caribbean region as a whole represents a market of approximately 23.5 million people. The region is the 3rd largest export market for U.S. manufactured goods in Latin America behind Mexico and Brazil. Come listen to our panel of experts discuss why and how investment in this attractive destination is becoming more and more attractive.

puerto rico as an Attractive destination for new retail opportunities ballroom b

Puerto Rico once was the most affluent and sought after communication and trade port in the Americas, hence the name Puerto Rico, meaning “Rich Port”. This island continues to have a strategic and privileged position in terms of trade, commerce, industrial and retail opportunities. This territory of the United States often becomes the first step for new retail concepts before said concepts make inroads in the U.S. mainland. In this insightful discussion we will hear the new trends in retail and their experiences, by both merchants and landlords. This discussion will provide stories of their expansions, challenges and other opportunities that have risen.
